I did not say you were. I just googled so I could get more info. As for the darkness, I like it as an image. Turns out it is also called a Hawthorn Fly which kind of makes sense as that is what it sitting on.
I have Oh Crap mode set up for birds in flight. I am sometimes outside with the 70-200 shooting a horse portrait or similar. It saves all that fiddling around and then it is to late because the bird is gone.
I crop. I shoot a lot of macro, mainly insects. I also shoot a lot of small birds. For both it is great to be able to crop. The depth of field on the macro shots is increased if I can shoot from further away and crop.
Also the function menu is customisable I have change a few of the out of the box settings in there.
