    Sri Lanka

Has anyone here got experience of Sri Lanka? There's a lot of national parks and other wildlife rich areas, and there's no end of trip combinations offered. Any insight in to any of them that can be shared will be greatly appreciated. What you saw, the general experience the place provides, and...

Condors in Bolivia - no photos I am afraid

eBird does have reported sightings in the mountains above La Paz, less so around Lake Tititaca. That said, no location looks reliable and obviously sightings aren't the same as (good) photography! My guess is they're a bird that wanders far and wide looking for food in a pretty big landscape...

    Black-winged Kite - UK First

A new one to add to the British bird list. Never seen one myself but they look like stunning birds. View: https://BANNED/BirdGuides/status/1648290330935017472 View: https://BANNED/RDMECOLOGY/status/1648262584506695685 ebird range map: https://ebird.org/species/bkskit1 Mostly...

    Has anyone seen this before?

    I gather it's a symptom of bird flu. https://BANNED/m_r_atkinson

    Walrus, Scarborough

You can see the large crowds here View: https://BANNED/GHRYorksCoast/status/1609190410923933696 I think ideally the zone would be larger but at least it picked a place with existing barriers. There's also a tweet with a video of it pleasuring itself so it's definitely a male...

    Wasp iD?

Can I recommend the ObsIdentify app? It's amazing how far 'ai' has come in a few years. I fed it your photo and it agreed with Box Brownie about the species. It's not at the stage where you can take the answer as gospel every single time but it's remarkable how accurate it can be and it's a...

    Leaving Out A Trailcam.

I don't know which trailcam you have, but there are some quite cheap ones these days, such is China's ability to churn out obscure brand electronics at very low cost. For a higher risk location, it might be worth using one of those rather than your main one(s).

    Kingfisher Musings.

To finally follow up on my earlier post: Kingfisher by Paul Whitbread, on Flickr I've managed to have a number of sessions by the stream with this young lady in attendance. All evidence points to her being the only bird using the stretch of water. She was also remarkably unperturbed by the...

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2021

The Youtube link for anyone who missed it. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0R32kCD5Tw Official gallery with all the images https://www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy/gallery?tags=ed.current I need to have a browse of the gallery before I decide which is the best (half the fun of visiting the...

Does anyone use trail cams to find the best places to shoot?

I use one down at a farm where I introduced myself to the owners. My main issue is not setting them up correctly so I get back to an empty card and flat batteries!

RPS Distinctions - who has or wants one?

There used to be a guy at my camera club who would often suggest I go for some distinctions. I'd always say only half joking the only ones I want are the honorary ones; there's no homework plus it's the real sign you've made it to a significant level that they're chasing you...

    Floating hide?

Unfortunately England has one of the worst water access situation in the world. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20182198

    Floating hide?

I'd like a floating hide. Unfortunately living in the overpopulated south of England, I'd struggle to find place bodies of water where there is both access and worthwhile subjects.

    ' Portable' perches.

I only use it in a field. That said I do drill drainage holes in them or by the end of the summer you end up with an awful stinky wet mess.

    ' Portable' perches.

I use buckets but filled with soil rather cement. You can fill it up closer to situ rather lug something heavy across a field.
