Glidecam vs gimbal?

Ive been shooting weekly videos for 3 years or so. Format is fairly simple individuals speaking to camera or two cameras filming interview style discussion over the shoulder. I’d like to make the videos more dynamic with some movement when that makes sense for the content. I’ve had a glidecam for 6 months or so and still need to practice to improve results. typical setup canon 5DM4 and 16-35f4. Question - would I be better off investing in a gimbal? Eg Crane 2.

I've contemplated the same thing but the cost of a decent gimbal just seems to be quite high when considering that what I really need to do is practise more with the glidecam.

Have you considered a slider?

Thank you yes a slider is an option too.

You can still get some nice dynamic shots and loads of different angles with a slider if you mount it on a ball head first then another one with your camera on.

I have just bought a Gimbal. Dear lord it makes life easier for video!

Haha, I've pulled the trigger on one too. Hopefully pick up today. I expect to keep the glidecam for backup and when faster movement than the gimbal can cope with is called for.

I'd be interested to know what gimbals you guys have gone for.

Zhiyun Crane M

I use Xt2 on it.

Thanks, I would be interested to know how you get on with it. I have a Sony A6000 (which should fit) as well as a Panasonic HDD HS300 camcorder (which may not fit as it's 70mm W x 73mm H x 141mm L).

I''ve had the Crane 2 for just a day. It is as easy to use as it looks....great piece of kit. This other one...wow....not sure I could manage that weight let alone the price :)

Shot 2 videos this weekend with the crane M and fujifilm Xt2. This will easily handle a Sony A6000 series.
