The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Yes Trevor thanks, a 1999 model (Generation-5 -- Gear Driven Cams), 45k on clock, nice enough condition for sure.
A second bike to ride/enjoy on sunny days.
Those VFR's sound wicked with a decent can on them. I had a mate with the VFR800 which had a pair of Akropovic carbons fitted, the noise when it revved was awesome. Even the. VFR400 sounds great....

Wow, if it's £150 then I'd happily buy one for niche use (birds for me is niche!)!

There is one on WEX used for £186, the £200 one is from LCE.
£186 with a store warranty is alright I suppose, but if you run the eBay gauntlet you can get one for £100-110 easily.

Assuming you’re taking your X-T5; be aware that the 50-230mm isn’t rated to resolve 40mp; but I think you really need to be pixel peeping to see it. It was pretty good when I had the X-T50

My options at the moment is to lug the A7R3+70-200 2.8 GM or buy this lens, which isn't as sharp but. has extra 100mm more reach.

All the ones on eBay is near £200....shame I am not in HK or didn't get one when i was there. Had no plans going to see Puffins until 48hrs ago!

Thanks. Ah yes, have read this.

The kit 16-50 zoom lens, or actually any zoom lens for that matter, is in danger of making the camera and lens combo too big for me :sneaky: I don’t want to have to take a dedicated camera bag out when I leave the house - I much prefer the every day carry approach.

The X100 (plus keys wallet and phone) fits nicely in my Aer Day Sling 2 -

I believe the X-T5 with a pancake will also just about fit.

Otherwise we are going down the camera bag rabbit hole.

I’m actually talking myself back into another X100VI as I type this

The point about buying a camera, using it for a while and then selling it is valid, but it’s not because it was an X100 that I did this. I do it with all ‘things’ that I purchase, and then end up not using - some people just put the item in the back of the cupboard and move onto something else spending more money and leaving whatever is now in the cupboard to depreciate, but I need to release the money from the item before buying something else otherwise it seems like a waste to me. I also can’t stand clutter.
The bag issue is real, but since I bought a Wotancraft Pilot 2L it’s made life much easier, the only bag I’ve ever had that genuinely doesn’t even feel like your carrying anything.

I’ve used it with X100VI, Nikon ZF and ZR, it’s as perfect as a bag can be.

I think I am going to get one of these, even if I use and then sell it for £100 (trade back to LCE), then i'll knock it off as rental fee for a week.

Lighter + longer than the 70-200. It will be day time anyway so F/6.7 isn't a problem.

I meant to reply when you asked about these the other day Raymond. I've had one, and I've been thinking about picking up another one for the times when my 100-400 is overkill. It's a nice little lens; I read that the autofocus can be slow, but I never had any problems with mine. If you were thinking of using it with a teleconverter, that won't work because the rear element is too close to the mount for the TC to fit.

I am not expecting great things for £200. If it were me I would take my chances with my 75/1.2 but the person i am going with is crazy about animals, birds in particular so I am getting this lens for that.

It will probably go into the bag along with my 15-45 that wouldn't see the light of day again until I need something really really long.

Okay.....slight change of mind...

XC 55-230 for £200

or

XF 55-200 for £250?

I am leaning towards the 50-200 now, metal mount and faster aperture is so nice to have. I think 300mm (in 35mm terms) vs 345mm isn't that much of a problem as on the XT5 I can crop in a little.

Despite what I said a few posts up the page, I'd go for the 55-200 in that situation. I've never had one, but I've heard it's a nice lens... handling wise it's very similar to the 18-55 which I absolutely loved, and having an aperture ring is always a nice bonus.

Knocked them down to £235 at LCE because it doesn't have the hood and the hood is £15 new elsewhere!

Got the lens today. No box and no hood (ordered one for £7 from Aliexpress), but overall condition is fantastic. No dust, clean and no drop marks.

IQ is better than expected considering it isn't rated for XT5 but it is good enough for me.

Bokeh is good too, for the money. I think it is a bargain for £235.

I also like how the aperture stays on the maximum when zooming back and forth automatically.

Loved mine. I eventually "upgraded" it to the 70-300mm but IQ was pretty much the same, just with a bit more reach. The fact that these are so cheap now is mind boggling!

HELP!

Recently there have been a number of occasions when I have found that my X-Pro3 has swapped SD slots it saves to.
I can't find why it does this and to change it back I have to go to several layers in the Menu - not something I am likely to do unwittingly!
Anyone any idea of what button/buttons my finger may be pressing when I'm carrying it to make this happen?

Guess you are not shooting in back up mode, 2 shots into both cards.

It's probably because one side is full.
Nope, Slot 2 is set to be used only when Slot 1 is full and it would be nowhere near full.

From a Google AI dive

It is a known quirk, sometimes reported as a defect, that Fujifilm X-Pro3 cameras can unexpectedly switch SD card slot priorities (e.g., swapping from Slot 1 to Slot 2) when using sequential recording. This often happens if one card is removed to transfer data and the camera is powered on while only one card is present.

Here are the common reasons for this behavior and potential solutions:

Common Causes & Solutions
  • Sequential Saving Behavior:In "Sequential" mode, if the card in the primary slot (usually Slot 1) is removed, the camera may default to recording on the remaining card (Slot 2). If you reinsert the first card, the camera might not automatically switch back to it.
    • Solution: Check the SAVE DATA SET-UP > CARD SLOT SETTING (STILL IMAGE) in the menu and explicitly set which card to prioritize.
  • Dirty or Faulty SD Cards:A card with slightly dirty contacts, or one that is marginally compatible, can cause the X-Pro3 to trigger "Card Error" messages or default to the other slot.
    • Solution: Clean the contacts of your SD cards with a soft cloth or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Formatting in Camera:Not formatting cards in the camera after removing them to transfer images can lead to slot recognition problems.
    • Solution: Always format your cards in the X-Pro3 before starting a new session.
  • Internal Firmware Quirk:Sometimes the firmware requires a refresh to properly manage the dual slots.
    • Solution: Reinstall the latest firmware for the X-Pro3.
  • Camera Switch-On Procedure: If you turn the camera on before the card is fully recognized, it may default to the wrong slot.

    Troubleshooting Steps
  1. Check SELECT SLOT(x SEQUENTIAL): Ensure that in the SAVE DATA SET-UP menu, you have chosen the preferred starting card.
  2. Format Both Cards: In-camera format both cards to ensure they are properly initialized for that specific camera.
  3. Try New Cards: Some users report that specific brands/types of cards work better. Try a different brand (e.g., Lexar or SanDisk Extreme Pro) to rule out card failure.
  4. Turn Off Camera While Switching: Never change SD cards while the camera is on, as this can confuse the slot allocation.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be a faulty card slot reader, which is a known issue for some X-Pro3 units.

End of Google AI Dive

You cannot set up a change slot using a function button, so it is unlikely that any control presses are causing this.

Sometimes on the xt's I've noticed that it swaps the cards when you hit the delete/dustbin button without viewing an image. Frustrates the hell puts me when I do it.
