I'm tempted by that 50mm f2 Viltrox for sale on here but in reality I don't know how much I'd use it. I moved away from 50mm to 35mm and now the Sony 40mm f2.5 is my most used lens but I do keep thinking maybe I'd use a 50mm more if I had one... as opposed to the Sony 55mm f1.8 I have. I'm also a bit worried by 3rd party AF performance.

Possibly size and cost? That 90 looked quite small.

As I like these reviews...

I didn't know this existed... being better than the Voigtlander 35mm f2 APO is praise indeed although part of this could maybe be Voigtlanders decision to keep the size down, maybe. Whatever, it looks to be a good lens.

I'll have a think. It's 35mm and f1.8 and it has an aperture ring are those things appeal to me but the size might rule it out as I like compact lenses like the Sony 35mm f2.8 and 40mm f2.5.

Sony A7rVI and 100-400mm GM lens to be announced on May 13? | sonyalpharumors

I got some hints from sources that Sony could announce the new gear this on May 13. Now in the USA Alphauniverse is promoting this event for May14/15. Seems like we are REALLY close to get the new Sony A7rVI (67MP, new body) and 100-400mm f/4.5 (internal zoom and 50-150mm GM price).

Have zero excitement about either of those. Maybe would have had a look at the rumoured 16-28 f/2 but that seems to have went quiet now.

I'm not bothered about the 100-400mm, it will be too expensive and too heavy. I doubt I'll be interested in and R series unless they get blackout free shooting, sensor readout speed of the A1 (or faster) and the extra dial on the top. I'm sure it'll be great though and AF will be top notch.

I’ve jut finished a couple of rolls of Fujifilm Superia and I’m still a sucker for film.

The RX1R II is great, and I will miss the lens but the lack of joystick, lack of BBF, and general tardiness of the UI just started to niggle that little bit too much. Plus I do miss a permanent VF.

It still irks me that the Mark III has a fixed screen, I think now grey prices are a little more palatable if it had a tilt screen I’d have definitely bought that instead.

I’m sure there’ll be a mark iv to tempt me :lol:

I think I'd like an RX1 but I couldn't live with the pop up EVF and the newest has that fixed back screen which I couldn't live with. A few years ago that wouldn't have bothered me but a lot of my pictures are taken using the back screen below eye level now. And then there's the price. I have a birthday coming up and although I'm too tight Mrs WW would buy me one in a heartbeat but I wouldn't let her.

I'm not surprised you're going for a Fuji but I will be surprised if you keep it. The main issues for me although there were others were the fixed screens on the ones I had, the AF and MF and the fact that I always chose another camera ahead of them probably because of those and other issues. I even chose MFT over my X100's.

I had a day with the X-E5 last week and enjoyed using it, the X100VI is like a fixed lens version.

Like you I do a lot of low level shooting so a tilt screen is a must. AF was better than the RX1R II and I’ve coped with that without issue.

One other thing with the RX1R II that surprised me was how prone to camera shake it is. I usually don’t struggle, even taking IBIS into account but I have to be careful with the RX1 under 1/50.
 
I'm normally trying to freeze all movement so anything under three digits makes me nervous.

Good lock with it. I have thought about trying another but it's just gas and I know it's not a camera for me in any version.

only issue is that sensor is wasted due to the lens
its not sharp enough to utilise the 40mp or focusses fast enough to make use of the updated AF from the sensor.
might be better off buying the previous version depending how much you care for the IBIS

It’s only a ‘fun camera’ so won’t go under that much scrutiny ;)

No, had a play with a few but never had one. I've always had a love/hate relationship with Fuji, love the cameras, love the colours, hated certain parts of the rendering. However recent tests have shown those rendering issues are a thing of the past, in test shots of my garden I struggled to tell the difference between the X-E5 with 23mm f2.8 and my RX1R so fingers crossed I'll not be disappointed.

But if IQ's not quite up to par at least it looks cool :lol:

More OT. I didn't take a camera out today but tomorrow I think we're heading up Roseberry Topping. Last year I took my A7III and 40mm but this year there's big changes and I'm taking my A7cII and 40mm. Radical. Next week we're off on a cruise and I'll probably take the A7cII and 40mm. There's a pattern emerging.
