Has anyone tried Lucky SHD50 B&W film?
The 30.5m bulk roll is discounted to around £33 on Aliexpress at the moment. I have ordered a roll to play with.

Nope. I do have a roll of SDH100 on the shelf though. Bought some random B & W a few months ago to try out.
 
Reviews online for the SHD50 (in particular) are less than glowing..... much less!
Ah well...... something to experiment with.

The 100ft roll arrived. I put it into a Watson bulk loader and rolled around a dozen frames into a cassette.
It is a very fetching shade of blue/green. I'll expose it soon at 6/12/25/50 to get some idea of its speed.

Oh..... the massive dev chart shows SHD50 with Rodinal for only two speeds, 25 and 6. Perhaps a speed of 50 is unrealistic (as commented by several users).
Not sure if a 12 to 25 speed film is much use to me! Might be good for a tripod session.

Whats the times for six and 25 ?

you could try adding half the difference in the gap between 6 and 25 or maybe increase by 75% of half the difference
 
In a brief burst of almost sunshine, I photographed my garden fence at 12, plus 2, 1, minus 2, 1.
Because I also have a short length of film from my Agfa ISORapid I, I have combined them on one reel and will give them a go in the Bellini Duo Step (Diafine clone).
This usually does a good job. I'll try it at 5 mins.
 
So, a quick dev session in Bellini Duo Step for 5mins (each part). The time was just a stab in the dark, a starting point.
Camera Minolta Dynax 5 with 50mm f1.7 at 5.6. Matrix metering. Medium contrast scene, hazy sunlight, definite shadows.

In the image, two sets of frames from the left, ISO 3, 6, 12, 25 and 50.
I will scan them later. It looks as if the 12 is usable, possibly the 25 will be a little thin. The 50 is not a runner at all.
Just from these negs, something between 12 and 25 may be nice. But this will be for specialised work, probably on a tripod.

There were no marks on the cleared negative, which came out clear in unexposed areas.

After scanning (photographed with Samsung camera as a JPG then small adjustments made to curve).

I found the slightly thinner neg at 25 easier to work with. The 12 version had too high contrast, but this could be partly due to the development it had (suffered).

A crop at pixel per pixel scale from a 3500x2300 pixel image, unprocessed other than a small change in the curve (black).
Of course, as a jpg image from my camera, the camera has done some level of processing to this image and I recognise the level of sharpness
as being typical for regular digital shots from this camera.

At the pixel level in the image above, I would expect to see grain in the film that I normally use.
Given that the slight softness of the image (at the 100% pixel level) is something that is perfectly expected from this camera.... and that I can't see grain, might this suggest that the image on the negative might be more detailed than my present scanning process is capable of showing?

Yes, I think the speed of 50 is unrealistic. I've a 100ft roll which I'm planning on shooting at 25 - when I finally get the film out the fridge and into the bulk loader!
 
Given the results from my first test roll, I think this might be a usable film for some applications and probably even hand hold on bright days.
The detail possible might be beyond the capability of most of my equipment. (I've ordered another roll).

MY roll has arrived, I am going to take a leaf out of your book Dave and try to do some proper tests while I have such a lot of it and also will be able to cut and load film into testing size strips. :)

I have just read that it may be a C41 film?

Not heard anything about it being C41, limited dev info is all for b&w. Lots to say that exposing 25iso or less is the way to go.
 
I would expect a C-41 film to have an orange tint to the sprocket areas. Pretty sure I remember XP-1 looking like that, at least!
 
I just assumed that is a regular B&W film. Seemed to develop well, if slower than box speed.
My second roll arrived today. Quite a fast delivery. The latest went into the freezer.
Guess I will be getting used to photography on a tripod, which might be a good thing.

C41 development of B&W film. cant flipping find it now
 
I've done it the other way (developed colour print film in B&W chemicals) but not traditional B&W in C41. It's the film base that has the orangey colour rather than it being a result of the developing process.
