90's electronic SLR's - metering?

Yes
If using an electronic 1990's SLR, in my case EOS 1000 and 3000, do they automatically compensate when a Y2 filter is used on the lens?

I've read the manual for the 3000 but it doesn't mention filters. I'm used to compensating the ISO on the light meter when using a Y2 on a manual camera.

the meters should compensate for any filtrations regardless of camera which has internal metering calibrated to 18% grey....

For a yellow filter I think the camera will compensate by around a stop or so.

If it is TTL meter, it will compensate, how will depend on the wavelength sensitivity of the sensor cell and the colour of the filter. Selenium is most sensitive to yellow/green.

The rule of thumb is that TTL metering will work with all filters except red, which will come out 1 stop under. Given that coloured filters imply Black and white negative film, this may rely on the latitude q.v. other threads

Addendum. CdS cells are overly sensitive to red, although as far as I can recall this wasn't mentioned until silicon blue cells came along and the better correction was a marketing point. Rather as orthochromatic film (from Greek "correct colour") gave correct rendering of colours until panchromatic films came along (= all colours). Personally, I rather like describing a Black and white film as showing correct colours...

Old and new cameras ? I noticed pointing my cameras at the spagetti type light bulb (forgot what it's called) from a set distance and noticed modern cameras gave the same readings but old cameras were all over the place, but all the same outdoors.....erm well just saying o_O;)
