The craft of retouching (and AI)

This is Capture One discussion with Jan Wischermann, a high end retoucher (think Vogue etc), which turned out to be an hour of him discussing the AI is having on his industry and how it;s affecting his business (Capture One is barely mentioned),

I think there is one question at the end that is specific to C1, but as that is about the C1 AI skin retouching, the answer would apply to any AI skin retouching tools).

As with the feedback from high-end commercial photographers, Jan isn't too worried about the effect of AI on his business and I felt it gave some useful insights into AI and photogrpahy.

Years ago I knew someone on a forum who's wife was a pro photographer and did photography for ads all over the world. He showed one of her pictures of a dismantled trainer for one of the big brands with each component suspended by strings. A team took a week to process the shot. Imagine how much that would have cost. These days I supose processing that same shot would be a relative doddle with no "team" of retouchers and processors.

I must be picking up something totally different to others from this video as I still don't know what this refers to :-(

TBH I'm not sure because a 1 hour livestream video (about C1?) isn't something I'd watch without a compelling reason. My comment was interpreting the expression as I think I've heard it elsewhere.

Ah thanks.

As an aside, the video isn't about C1, even if it looks as if it should be, which is why I wrote

"...which turned out to be an hour of him discussing the AI is having on his industry and how it;s affecting his business (Capture One is barely mentioned)," Of course I should have said ...the "effect" AI is having... :-(

Maybe I *should* look then.

"should" sounds a bit strong :)

I obviously thought that given the fairly frequent discussion on AI, this was a relevant and interesting discussion,

I find discussions that relate to high end commercial photography fascinating because it's so different from my experience of professional photography.

I've always been aware of the differences between professional photography and professional cinematography in terms of what I would call a "professional approach" to the job. But working in high end commercial photography seems to come close to working in professional cinematography.
