Unless there’s something major that I can’t live with, I can’t see how it can lose really: similar form to my X-T4, which I love. Better battery life, IBIS and autofocus. It doesn’t feel like there’s a downside really (apart from paying for it!)Sounds promising

Why? You've got A7x kit so why go for an SLR type APS-C? You must be getting away from the small light package of the X100. Small and light was the point wasn't it?
Maybe it's for the fun of trying new kit? I can understand if that's the reason as I ended up with way too many film era lenses because it was a fun thing to do but I've never really felt the same with cameras.
Anyway. My understanding isn't necessary. Enjoy!

If you'll enjoy using it then I say go for it... you can always sell it on if if it doesn't gel but I do struggle to see the point in having both Sony FF and an incompatible APS-C FF body. Will the difference in size and weight between SLR type Sony and Fuji systems be significant enough? For me, almost certainly not. I know Sony bodies have got a bit bigger in recent years but the Sony SLR type bodies I've had killed off my MFT SLR bodies.
On files, sorry but I can't see them matching a Sony FF file for me but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I could have the body and two lenses for the same weight as the Sony and one lens (I’ll be taking zooms). It depends what you’re looking for in files, Sony files do have a smidge more detail, but I like the aesthetics of the Fuji files, and some of the lenses have very good micro contrast giving similar depth to the images. YMMV

I think (for me) the Sony files have quite a bit more detail, especially in lower light. But it feels in the past year or so detail and IQ have fallen down my list for a lot of situations. Maybe I've changed a bit and want more for photos with feeling or light etc Maybe shooting more film has changed those feelings.... I'm not sure....
In Cornwall, I certainly used the A7Riii and 35GM for the dedicated sunset/landscape photos. The X100f easily covers everything else. I've not really pushed the X100f for situations like that, but I feel I should. I always thought the X100f and the DJI Mini 2 would be a nice lightweight kit
And, I should use the drone more often too!

There’s hardly any difference in detail between my A1 and X100VI, but the X100VI is 40mp vs the 24mp of your X100F so I guess that would account for some of it. Also the newer lens is better I believe and is able to resolve more detail. Sharpness and detail isn’t my main priority either these days, depth and looking less digital are some of my main priorities.

To be fair my comparison was the Sony 20-70mm at 35mm f8 vs the X100VI at F8, I’m sure if I compared against the 35mm GM there’d be more of a difference, the GM’s one of the best rendering lenses I’ve ever used

Note, if your dials and text on the camera have gone yellow, use a needle to scrape away at it to clear out the gunk and get it back to white,

I thought about it; I really liked my X-T30, but I find the larger bodies more comfortable. If I don’t get on with the T5 loan next month I might try one out.

That being said I don’t think I’ll be getting one, in the hand there’s very little difference in weight from my A1 with 20-70mm and the Fuji feels front heavy and not as well balanced. It’s a good thing really as it’ll save me a lot of money

Would be interested to hear how you get on with the 16-55. I’ve had the mk1 for years. Lovely lens but a chunky beast.

In terms of the form it feels a bit front heavy and the aperture ring doesn’t seem to have very positive clicks, seems too easy to change aperture settings. I’ve not had chance to test IQ yet though.

My x-h1 arrived yesterday. Mint and with the battery grip. Just in time for my trip to France. Will take it with me along with the zf and probably leave the z8 at home.
I bought the H1 when it first launched all those years ago, and it still feels like the best fitting camera for my hands.

The optical performance of the 16-55mm MK2 is excellent, sharp with plenty of detail, very little to choose between this and my A1 wtih 20-70mm. Edge and corner sharpness is very good indeed, with just very slight softness in the corners at 16mm f2.8.
I've not been able to test how much 'pop' it has, but from what I can tell micro contrast seems good so I'd expect it to have some decent pop for a lens of this type.

Sounds pretty good. Noted what you said about feeling front heavy earlier but I’d have to assume it’s still notably better than the mk1 as it’s shorter and lighter.

How are you finding the XT5 and 16-55 experience? Has it clarified your thoughts one way o another. I find the new 16-55 mkii a much better lens than the mki version. Only downside if it could be so considered is the weight ?build quality? of the lighter mkii might be less good. I've thought that since I picked it up in my local camera shop when it was introduced. I couldn't afford it at the price it was then, a few months later when it dropped to £1300 with the battery grip I bought one. When the X-H2 was introduced I tried that, somehow it felt different, it was subtle, but it was there, result being I bought a second near mint XH-1.I don't know how much longer Fujifilm GB will continue to service them, but until they cease doing so I'm keeping them.

Yeah it's calrified my thoughts, I'm sticking with my Sony. The X-T5 felt great with the 16-50mm f2.8-4.8 but with the 16-55mm f2.8 WR II it felt front heavy and the grip wasn't substantial enough, as a result I'd need to add a grip and any weight saving would be negated. In the hand I could barely feel a difference in weight between the X-T5 and 16-55mm vs the A1 and 20-70mm despite there being nearly 300g difference, maybe as a result of the weight distribution and grip. IQ wise the Sony just edges it.
I've also been working hard on presets in lightroom and I've pretty much matched classic chrome and classic negative for my Sony. Granted it's not quite the same as applying a preset won't work across the board quite as well as a camera processing it there and then, but it's close enough.

Wise move, IMO there is very little point in ending up with system duplications, one system just ends up being an expensive paperweight. I'd definitely consider an X100-WCL though, its very small and light enough to slip in a pocket, and will give that 'bit wider view' when you've decided to just take the X100VI - IMO it makes the X100VI that bit more versatile as a lightweigt travel camera solution. It takes the smae size 49mm filters as the standard X100VI as well
(I personally wouldn't both with the X100-TCL, the cropping capability of the X100VI, covers most of the bases, and it is surprisingly heavy and makes a little camera (with little grip) feel very front heavy)

With the rumour mill predicting that the XT6 will be announced in first week of September (2026), if that is true there will probably be a glut of low use secondhand XT5 cameras becoming available.
Until we see the specs of the XT6 then how much of a step forward it is compared to the XT5 is moot as each one of us has different needs and wants. I want better AF but unless it is equivalent in speed and consistency to my Nikon Zf it is a 'non-purchase' item.
