WCMUT....what cheered me up today

We managed to get out for a walk yesterday and today, just about a mile each time, gradually going to try to increase gradually. It is a far cry from the eight to ten miles we were doing each day in 2020, but considering what my heart has been through since 2021, it is acceptable.

The bungalow we're moving to has a large garage with loads of racking that we were led to believe was going with the vendor. Got a call from the estate agent to say that, if we wanted to put a car in there, he'd be happy to strip the racking out, otherwise, he'd be happy to leave it.

Mrs Marc was already looking at the cost of replacing it, so now, she's a very happy bunny!

A car in the garage, how quaint! I thought that we were the only folks to do that!!!

Friends of my wife went on holiday in Devon or Cornwall recently, in their camper van and parked in their booked spot, front row, overlooking the beach at the caravan park. After their booked time in that position they had to move further back and found themselves next to a steep embankment. Because it's been hot children were riding their bikes down the steep slope up to 11.00pm and making a lot of noise .The couple spoke to parents and not only spoke about the noise but the danger to their little 'uns. An accident waiting to happen but the parents weren't interested and the shouting and screams of the children carried on. Next morning the couple went to the park owner who went with them to look at the steep slope and recognised the danger element immediately and closed it off . He must have thought that the couple had saved him being sued in the event of a child injuring itself because he thanked the couple, refunded them the whole week, told them they could stay longer for no extra charge..in the event they stayed three extra days, told them to contact him directly next time and he would give them a front spot, no extra charge overlooking the beach every time they visited.

I've never heard of anyone getting that kind of treatment.

It's good to learn that there are still decent, honest business people out there.

We generally only hear about the stupid and the just plain bad.

Happy for you Nigel. Bask in your reward! Congratulations and Well Done :D

Hearing back from a mate in Crete whose beach bar is between Ayios Pavlos and Ayia Gallini - an area devastated over the past week or so by widfires. He and his family are safe and well. Not so sure about his bar but we'll find out in a few weeks.

Needed some little gas cylinders so went to GoOutdoors. Had a choice between own brand (£8 for 4) or Camping Gaz (£12 for 4). Asked a member of staff what the real world difference was and he (and a colleague nearby) said "Nothing apart from the colour of the can" (or words to that effect). Picked up the cheaper ones and headed for the till, at which point matey stops me with an opened pack with one of the plastic lids missing and asked if I wanted that pack for £4... Erm, let me think for a microsecond - "That's very kind of you - SOLD!" Even if the one with the missing lid was empty (it isn't), it would have been a decent extra saving but at 1/2 the members' price, it was a real bargain!

Sweeping up the accumulated dust and grit from my wall coping repairs in the rear garden, so that the good lady can walk around without falling or slipping any more. All those plastic sandbags come in handy for "grubble"! Must book a slot at the local "recycling centre", to take my 2 bags (maximum) for this week! Hardly surprising that the fly tippers just go for it in the borough! Must book online etc, etc. Well worth it to see the smile on her face, now that it is all nearing completion. She's doing well on one kidney and is almost back to her "normal" weight!

All the best for a full and timely recovery for Mrs Pix (or is it Mrs Barmy?!)

It's both, depending on the mood swing!! .... and thank you for your wishes. Much appreciated.

Realised that the guy who paid too much for his hotel on the Trivago advert (the one with Klopp the Teeth on lilos in a swimming pool) is the same guy driving the van in the Green Flag advert.

WCMUT MOT pass with no advisories on my 14 year old car!

My 11 year old Evoque recently passed with just a couple of advisories, corrosion on the brakes but they always seem to say that and some cracking on the tires. My oldest car is my MX5 which is 25 years old.

WCMUT.

I received some watch bits and pieces today. I fitted a dial and hands to a movement and put them in a case and added a strap in record time. I only hit one snag when the movement spun in the case. I've seen this before and quickly made a wire retainer which cured the spinning. I also swapped the hands on another watch I'd assembled earlier, I think I've done 7 now with another three planned and then I think I must stop as I have way too many watches now. I have the dial, hands and movement for one and I'm just waiting for the case and after that I'll be doing two more but I might stretch that to three just to use up all the bits and pieces I have in stock. I was really pleased with todays final results. Fitting the second hand is by far the fiddliest bit.

WCMUT is there was a rally/festival for the last few days on the local rugby club which finished this morning and other than the portaloos and hired lights etc awaiting collection you wouldn't know it had happened.
The lack of litter shows a high level of respect for the hosts and local community by the attendees (we walk our mutt on the paths around the perimeter of club almost daily).

Reminds me of when Goodwood hosted a mass take-off of Spitfires about 10 years ago, days after Revival had finished. All the stands and Revival paraphenalia had gone within 2 days.

WCMUT... finding a solar powered outdoor security light that is quite bright and actually holds a decent charge. Two screws and good to go, far easier than running lots of cables. At £25, it's a decent price as well.

This is it here if anyone is interested: link

Is there any way of turning off the low level light (ie not sensor operated) or does it run all the time?

I'm not sure. I would prefer that as I figure it will waste the battery, but so far they seem to have stayed on all night at 30%. I've already thrown the boxes and instructions away, but I'll be buying another one soon, so I'll have a look.

Nice one, looks like it is actually 3% and not 30%, that'll explain why it lasts so long! lol

I'm not 100% sure that manual is the same as mine, I'll go check. I notice it says 1080 lumens in the manual, but the light is advertised as 550 lumens.

EDIT: yeah, that manual isn't the same. There's only a power button at the back and if I remember from the manual (and just tested it) you can have it permanently on at 100%, or dimmed during the night with motion detect raising it to 100%.

Those instructions on Amazon are for the larger unit:

spec sheet here, but no instructions! https://www.luceco.com/uk/products/solar/solar-guardian-floodlight/LEXSF6B40-01

It says security and presence settings, but mine definitely seems to be either on 100% or dimmed with motion detect.

Found the instructions online. It was the battery capacity where I was thinking 30%. Got there in the end! haha
