Week 30 Shadows (and technique, I think)
I went to North Vancouver yesterday morning but, of course, all I got was clouds and rain...
By the time I got home, the sun had come out so I grabbed my camera, again, and took my little one out for a walk.
I decided to go with black and white for all of the resulting images.

Thanks Paul, the Skytrain tracks make for some strong leading lines and shadows. Not my best shot of them, but I kind of liked it.
Thanks Wayne, I originally wasn't thinking of it for this challenge, I just liked the composition and thought that the white graffiti would work well in b&wnice ones Bill, penultimate pic for me.

Week 31 Close-up Portrait
I'm not much for taking portraits but I saw something similar to this on a Facebook group that I follow and thought that I'd give it a go. A multi-exposure, blended in PS and edited in LR and Nik Efexs

Week 32 Quiet Times
I thought that I'd walk around the city. Not really quiet anywhere in the city but there are spots where people can go and at least be calm...
Seating along the river at New Westminster Quay
A quiet place to have a smoke
Sometimes you have to crawl down below the sidewalk
Lots of small parks scattered about the city
And if you can find a park, then there is always the odd plaza
And if there are no parks or plazas nearby, you can always find an apple for a quiet conversation...

Yeah, I didn't know that the city had set that up for the FIFA celebrations. They closed off a couple of blocks of Granville Street to vehicle traffic and are leaving them closed off for the rest of the summer, along with all of the different artsy installations.

Week 33 Cultural Elements
I decided to go down to Commercial Drive. The section of that I was walking down originally had a large Italian population but currently is more culturally diverse and is known for the artistic population that has made its home there. It has some fantastic ethnic restaurants and a lot of fun shops and businesses.
My thought was to shoot some of the street art and take some images of cultural items through shop/restaurant windows.
On the wall outside a South Asian restaurant:
I think that this was in the window of a Thai restaurant:
And in the window of a Mexican gift shop:
And some rolled Turkish Delight:
Some West Coast First Nations artwork:
And, outside a Mexican restaurant:

Week 34 Nostalgia
I didn't know what I'd shoot for this challenge but we went to a food festival, got there early and decided to walk around and there was a small show and shine car show going on at a nearby park. It was limited to Jaguars and MGs (with the odd Auston Martin thrown in). The cars took be back a bit...
And then I went to an appointment downtown and remembered the old Woodwards sign.
Woodwards was a large department store chain when I was younger. I remember getting their Christmas toy catalogue every year and me and my brothers and sisters would go through it over and over until it was dogeared and ragged. I ended up working at Woodwards for a couple of years after graduation.
The downtown Vancouver locations had this large W above the store that slowly rotated. When the store went bankrupt and they redeveloped the site, they kept a replica of the sign. This is a multi-exposure blended in PS, just to give a sense of the movement.
And this is the actual, original W kept as a kind of sculptural element.
