Beginner MacBook Versus Mac Mini the stupid question of the year maybe.

Never used a MacBook and just to ask can you connect them to a monitor and is there a lot of difference if you can compared to a Mac Mini?

MacBook can be connected to an external monitor if desired, whereas Mac mini obviously must be connected. Personally I have an older Mac mini (M1 16Gb) for my ham radio setup, connected to a huge 4ft wide curved gaming monitor, giving me loads of screen real estate to fill with apps. I do use it for photo editing and it's excellent, although purists will say that curved monitors are not an ideal display as there may be distortion of the image. Many people go for BenQ monitors to use with their editing computer. My MacBook is an M2 25Gb, more powerful but I only use it away from home or if tinkering on my lap whilst putting in time with my wife in front of the tv!

Thankyou, I do use a Benq 27" monitor but was just thinking if buying a Mac Pro to replace my Mac Mini would be a good idea.

The main (Captain Obvious moment on my part) advantage is that a MacBook can easily be used as both desktop and laptop, especially as you already have a 27” Benq monitor.

I used a 27” iMac from 2013 until earlier this year when I bought a Benq 27 monitor to use with my M2 MacBook Air sometimes as two screen setup. Connects via USB-C.

Also got a Logitech keyboard and mouse (which can pair with my MacBook and my wife’s Windows 11 laptop). Finally, have hooked up an Apple TV HD box and some Bose Companion 20 speakers to the monitor too. Very versatile system. Couldn’t be more pleased.

Depends also a bit on the version of Mac mini you have - the latest MacBooks, especially Pro, came have much more processing grunt than an early Mac mini
