So switching between memory sets doesnt show a pop up, from my understanding it's because although the physical switch only has say M1 and M2 you can actually have more which you then need to confirm.

I could be interested in the 28mm f1.8 G depending on bulk and weight if it's better than the 28mm f2 but I can't see that as being a high bar to exceed. I briefly thought about getting the Viltrox 26mm f2.8 but flare resistance, the lack of a filter thread and reports of slow focus put me off. The size is very nice though.

Also, a 40mm f1.8 G? I like my 40mm f2.5 but I think I'd rather Sony updated their 35mm f1.8 or did a decent 50mm f1.8 to replace the 55mm f1.8 or did a mini G 35mm f2.x.

Anyone tempted to anything on the list? If they do actually arrive.

I'd be all over that 40mm.

Viltrox 27mm was my all time favourite lens on APSC, 40mm equivalent is just completely natural to me. Since moving to FF I've learned to love 35mm because the 40mm options aren't quite fast enough for me.

I wonder if I've now been institutionalised and will now find 40mm too tight...

I tend to fixate and go a bit ott but in reality there is a difference between 35 and 40mm but not a fantastic one and not as big as I tend to think when I'm getting triggered. There are focal length comparison tools online and it's interesting to compare focal lengths like 24 and 26 and 28, 35 and 40mm etc.

Yes, 40 is a bit tighter than 35 and you might well notice it (I do) when sat across the table from someone but in reality it might not be an earth shattering thing. You might just be able to live with it :D
 
One of the draws of the FE 40mm f/2.5 for me was the dual focus motors, although how much I'd notice it over single motors I'm not sure.

I think these other primes also use dual focus motors and there's also a few zooms:

Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G
Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G
Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G

I definitely notice the difference. 40mm just gels with me - I know the frame before I even raise the camera. In terms of results though, yeah there's barely anything in it and I can definitely make either work. It's kinda like someone moving your drivers seat a little - just feels a little off, but doesn't actually impede your driving.

For the first few months every time I'd raise the 35mm, I'd have that brief "Oh yeah... Gotta take a step forward".

Quite a few with 4 motors, eg both the current 70-200s

I'd love for them to bring out a 35mm f2 the same/similar size to the one on the RX1R series. I also wish Sony would update their 50mm f1.8, preferably a pancake like Canon's.

AFAIK Sony can't do a similar lens to that fir the A7x range as it sits so close to the sensor but yes, a really nice and compact 35mm of f2 or f1.8 would be very nice.

What I'm hoping for is lenses of the size of the Sony 28mm f2 but better.

Yeah one of the reviews I saw said that’s why they kept the same lens throughout the models as due to the design with the leaf shutter it would be a lot of time and money to redesign another.
And while it may not be the best lens the design and leaf shutter was all that kept it small.
Turn it into a FE mount would negate the compactness 100%

Yeah I understand why they can't make one as small for e-mount but I've had hoped they'd be able to get close.

Whilst the RX1R lens might not be the best in technical terms, in the real world it produces lovely images imo. I prefer lenses that produce pleasing images rather than ones that are technically superior but overly clinical (y)

This is why I keep thinking back to some of the lenses I had when I had Canon DSLR's especially the Sigma primes of the time.
 
One of the advantages of fixed lens cameras is that the position of the sensor is free so can be set further back and part if the lens can recede into the body making them more compact

Well my radar's always been wonky to be fair :lol:

To be honest to pay that kind of money for a fixed lens camera it would have to be perfect, and the Q3's lacking some features that I'd like such as a joystick, dedicated ISO dial like the M series, and image display crop when you choose 35mm, 50mm etc.

You can make the right hand control wheel toggle between exposure compensation and ISO using the button of the centre of the wheel

Lots of people including me moan about the crop framing, it should be a firmware upgrade, hopefully it will come (once the developers get out of traditional rangefinder mode!!)

I can’t see the joystick happening, to be honest I don’t miss it.

I did contact Leica a while back about the crop, they said it's not something that's in the pipeline but would pass on the suggestion ;)
 
What’s the best focus area setting to use for static car shots?
Or does it not matter too much with subjects that aren’t moving?
 
Guys, if I have my A7Rii set to mono [which I sometimes do with the Voigtlander 40mm for peaking to show better] what happens if I decide to shoot a video clip?

Will that be recorded in mono [as per a jpeg image] or will it actually have the colour information [as per shooting RAW images]??

I always use single point with BBF, I focus on the part of the car I want the main focus to be and then recompose, I find that quicker than moving the AF point around, and mm critical focus isn’t usually important.
 
Ok these Pergear cards are definitely fake, high+ mode and the shutter count is only going down 1-2 frames each time with 1/1000 shutter speed.

The camera is also laggy as hell.

I’d have thought it would have the colour profile but without trying I don’t know. I think s-log is your raw equivalent in video but video is something I know little about.

I do exactly the same regards focus then recompose.
I use the shutter button for AF-S and the back button is set to tracking continuous AF.

But won't this mean that the shutter button still focusses? I use BBF and AF-C all the time, that way I can focus recompose using the AF-ON button, and also keep it pressed for tracking, that way I don't have to keep turning AF off for the shutter button.
