She passed away today aged 80 years. I wasn't a great fan of country music but I did enjoy her films.

RIP.
 
I was reminded that she made it possible for over 300 million young children to receive free books via her Imagination Library. That's a wonderful legacy.
 
So sad, RIP Dolly :(

Because she was born into poverty and knew what it was like for children not only to have no books, but to have to work from a very young age instead of going to school.
She seems to have been one of those very rare people who was not only enormously successful but also 100% genuine.

In a news item tribute to her that I heard last night.......

Her father was a share cropper who could neither read or write and that was a great driver for her to succeed and by extension a/the reason for her philanthropy in regard to the benefits of an education and more especially access to books.

She never forgot her origins and acted accordingly to help others less fortunate than herself.
 
RIP Dolly! She had a good life for the most part. She always reminded me of my late Aunt, Eileen - she did a killer version of Jolene at parties [after a few bevvies] - and I mean, very close to the original. It's the only song I liked from Dolly, but I still respect what she achieved, and that millions loved her music and charm.
 
If there is a heaven, you can guarantee, she's booked a place. RIP Dolly.
 
I thought she was great. Totally self aware, knew exactly who she was, take it or leave it. The level of her charitable work is enormous.
The world could do with a lot more Dolly Partons. RIP.
