The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Sony/Minolta 50 f1.4 in A mount - use with an adapter and it'll AF for you too. The rendering is lovely, although it suffers a bit of coma and isn't especially sharp.

Are you getting on to the size of the Sony 55mm f1.8 once the adapter is fitted? That's the problem with the Rokkors and Zuikos etc, once you add the adapter they're the size of a Sony AF f1.8.

Possibly a touch smaller, but otherwise yes. It's lighter than the 55 because of the plastic body.

Took this one out last weekend.

Nice shots. I’ve always admired your Mark1 Escort. Very tasteful restoration.

Thank you Stephen. I'm actually a little uncomfortable with it because it looks too unreal, like something AI might have created, although it isn't generated.
It’s lighter and less contrasty than I would process it but in my opinion it suits the scene perfectly. A bit ethereal if that’s the right word.

Some rather interesting sirui lenses

I'm still considering a 24mm f/1.4 and wondering if that Aurora AF 24mm F1.4 will be worth a look? I've seen some samples from their 35mm f/1.4 and they look good, so that's encouraging. I'm guessing the price will be in the £450+ region? I can get the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM for £669 and rather than a stepping motor it has a Direct Drive SSM motor. The price seems not too far apart.

Didn’t know Sirui made lenses but they look interesting .

Yeah, not many so far but looks like they are starting to. They had a 85mm f1.4 which was somewhat decent

At the current 24GM prices, I'd just buy the GM. Even after like a decade it's still best in class. I'd be surprised if surui managed to make something better and significantly cheaper.

I think this little church was in Cubert on the way to Holywell Bay.

I do very much like the processing on these. Having seen some of your recent film shots I see you've done very well to match the Kodak Gold 200 look

Thanks mate. I'm not sure I perfectly (or actually) tried to match it, but it certainly looks good imo I'd have to check exactly how I edited them because these were from back in the summer holiday.

Very cool. Such a lovely thing to capture isn't it :)
Thanks
Yeah it wasn’t the best night for it with clouds and it ended up not being as bright this time. Weirdly 2 years ago to the day it was the brightest it’s been here, well definitely since I’ve been trying to get it anyway.

The local uni(st Andrews) contacted me and asked if they could re post my images on their instagram. It Seems to have gained some traction and is Now also on the Chinese red book app.

They seem to think this is a good lens...

That seems quite decent. It's bigger than the Sony f1.8 and f1.4 with a longer MFD than the f1.8. Performance into the corners at f1.4 does look good to me.

Those who have the A7V, is it a worthwhile upgrade on the A7III?

I've had my A7III since 2018, bought used, and it does everything I need, however I'm wondering if it could do it better? By better I mean faster and more accurate AF, more precise eye detection, better in-body image stabilisation, wider useful dynamic range, improved colour handling, less fringing in high contrast areas.

Upgrading isn't essential, but I'd see this as my camera body for the next decade. Any thoughts.

Yes.

I bought an A7III to see if I could make the change to Sony. I liked it a lot but saw the specs for the A7V and bought one. The A7III was soon on its way back to MPB and another A7V on it's way to me.

The ergonomics did it for me. Especially the multi-flippable screen, but other things to. The subject detection is improved too IMO. The only slight negatives to me are size adn weight, but they are far outweighed by everything else.

Are you saying its too large or too little?

A lot of people in Sony camp like the smaller/lighter bodies.

If you want bigger consider the grip :D
And if you want smaller consider A7c series :D

The V is bigger and heavier than the III. Not too big or heavy IMO.

I'm also quite pleased that in crop mode it still gives a useable (for me) 13ish MP.

I have always let the size of my DSLR's hold me back a bit, I'm always conscious of how I look so they always get used out in the sticks where nobody will get rattled, that has now changed with my new A7Cii, there isn't much in it but its just small enough to make me20261017_154555.jpg feel more comfortable in walking about with it.
