wide angle lens

Hi all, I often photograph aircraft and vehicles in museums. I have a Sony a77ii and a Sony 16-50mm 2.8 lens (SAL1650). Is this a wide angle lens? I ask because I still have to stand a long way away to get a good view of the subject. If this is not classed as a wide angle lens, can someone...
