Hi folks
I'm having a bit of a dilemma.
I have £350 to spend. I want either a Gopro or another Sigma 10-20.
I had a 10-20 before but sold it because I didn't use it that much but now I really miss it so want to get another. On the other hand, I also want a Gopro Hero 3+ Silver edition (don't really want the black as 1080 will do me). I want it for timelapses and stuff like that.
I know at the end of the day it's my choice and they are both different creatures but I really can't decide.
I can do timelapses on my D7000 easy enough but that would rack up the shutter count or I could use my G1 but the image quality is not that great for night work hence the Gopro.
But then, do I want wide angle for landscapes as my widest at present is 16mm?
Decisions decisions!!!!!

Go for the lens
I wouldn't worry about the shutter count on your nikon
I use my cameras a lot and have never had a shutter break on me
I don't do timelapses tho:)

Jules, the gopro is great for being unobtrusive and it if nifty. I've done some cool time lapses with it and taken some good images too...

I had a sigma 8-16mm and sold that as opposed to my gopro 3 black.

Gopros are amazing for lots of things, for example, using the wifi remote to take photos when you're riding your motorbike and it's attached to your helmet lol. But it could provide you with a new angle of working.

It sucks in low light and high contrast scenes with it's dynamic range being pretty abysmal.

Need any samples?

Go pro - You've got lenses and a camera already but you haven't got a go pro!

I would go for the lens, I have a gopro H2 and have tried timelapse with it twice and both times the battery has run out before getting a decent length for footage to be useful and I heard that the H3 is not that much better with battery life either.

Hmmm the kidney sounds good but I don't think anybody would want one of mine:)
More tempted by the a Gopro at the moment. Will do some more research on them I think.

theres the sony ones too, and theres the replay xd, which is awesome because they sponsor stadium super truck :)

I have the silver+3 gopro with touch screen backpack, great little bit of kit, it's always in my pocket ready for the wet or random time I need a small or quick snap!
I have loads of mounts for it for most occasions!

If not happy with the gopro you could always sell it and buy the lens! Ebays full of gopros!

Using the GoPro or similar cameras is a whole new thing really, can be rather addictive playing around and getting the best from it - at least for a while.

Sounds like a lot of faffing that phil and possibly expense too.

although I didn't buy it for this a good battery bank will only set you back £25. Mine covers (amongst other things) my go pro for at least 3 charges

Sounds like twenty five quid well spent, can you use the gopro with it connected. I bought a spare battery with my gopro and it was nearly £15 at the time but it has been a godsend.

I love using my GoPro for photography :) My only issue is the obvious lack of control over the shots - aperture, shutter speeds and, to a lesser extent, focussing. In that respect the UWA lens for your camera would be the obvious choice, but the GoPro is so unobtrusive you can get away with a lot more and have less confused-looking people in your shots - particularly if you're doing street stuff!

GoPro....I use mine more than I've ever used my wide angle zooms....Great piece of kit and superb quality...

could a Gopro be used at a football match, if you were on the touch line. or used behind the goal.

Remote triggering could be awkward - it's via wifi remote and you can't change the frequency so there might be a risk of interference if there's anything else around. Unlikely I know, I haven't had any problems using mine at home with the router nearby.

And you'd get shot if they discovered you recording video with it!
