10-20mm lens

I have the Sigma 10-20 (the older one!) and I really like it - seriously wide. Very sharp and I like the build quality of it.
I can't say anything about the Tamron but I can say that I'm more than happy with my Sigma!
 
Ive owned both the Tamron and now I have the Sigma and I much prefer the Sigma.

At f8 theres nothing in it bur wide open I found the Tamron to be unusably soft.

Ive also borrowed a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and that was absolutely fantastic but too much money for my needs. I dont anything about the Canon however.

Cheers mate. Have heard good things about the Sigma I believe the IQ is as good as the Canon.....is it!
 
Sigma have quality control issues, there was a post on here a couple of months ago where the poster bought one, found it soft on one side, returned it for a replacement, only to find it was soft on the other side! From what I read this isn't a unique experience.

I used a sigma briefly and it felt cheap, focus and zoom rings were slack and it seemed to be very cheap plastic.

I've seen many say they prefer the f4-5.6 Sigma over the more expensive f3.5 version.

The Canon is the best if you can afford it.

There were a couple of secondhand canons in the classifieds about a week ago.
 
+1 for the older Sigma 10-20, very sharp lens and worked great on my cropped sensor camera.
 
Have you considered the Tokina 12-24 f4 - I had one on a d90 & D300s much prefered it over the Siggie......
 
I too have been looking for a wide lens for my 500d. Had decided on the Sigma also, so is the f4 more sought after than the f3? Is it the better lens?

Hopefully get enough bucks for one later in the week :)
 
I can only comment on the sigma 10-20....had it for sometime now and I love it...Probably my favourite lens if I'm honest.
Maybe i was fortuanate in getting a decent piece of glass but the quality is superb!
 
Ive also got a very decent copy of the Sigma but having tried a Tokina 11-16mm if I was buying again I'd probably buy that.

Dont let that detract from the siggy though, its popular for a reason.

In the latest N-Photo Nikon magazine they did a group test on ultra wide lenses. Out of ten lenses only the Nikon 12-24 and the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 attained five stars for image quality. The Sigma is a couple of hundred quid cheaper. All the tested lenses were for crop sensors.

Curious to know what the Tokina rating was then..... If you know :shrug:
 
Another +1 on the Sigma. :thumbs:
Image quality is great for the money and build quality is also very decent.
(I have the Nikon F-mount version).

I seem to recall that the Tokina 12-24 is very similar to the Pentax 12-24 (I believe they co-operated on the lens), and I know in Pentax circles it has almost legendary status!
 
I know that the Tokina 12-24 got some cracking reviews & still does it seems when I was looking for a WA for my old crop bodies... It seemed to be the next best thing to the Nikon 12-24 if you couldn't afford it...

Wonder how good their latest one holds up - the Tokina 17-35mm f4 for FF bodies...
 
I have the Tamron 10-24, and for the price I think it's brilliant, it may be a little soft, and go a bit chromatic wide open, but it's a fun lens to use, and it all comes with the style it creates, the barrel distortion etc. would I trade it for the Canon equivalent? Yes, but it's nearly twice the price, is it twice as nice? I doubt it
 
Vote here for the Canon. Build quality is fantastic. Really strong, sturdy yet relatively light. You need to be careful with vignetting at less than 13mm, but slim filters help (althought cost more).

No hesitation in recommending it.
