I have a 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 which is great. It's very sharp and I am very happy with it although the wider end I tend not to use or like very much but it is a cracking lens. I also have the 24-105mm f4L which I adore:love: on my 40D. It's just so sharp and gives a very nice balanced image with Super Image quality. I'm thinking that perhaps a 17-40mm f4L would be a nice stable mate for the 24-105mm as they would compliment each other nicely and make a great pair.

Would you have the L over the UWA? For me 17mm on crop is fine, actually 24mm is fine for me :D

Having the 24-105 I am very smitten with L glass!

I am looking to maybe move up to a 5D Mk2 sometime in the future if funds allow but then again i may go for a 7D or 60D if it's any good. Really would like Digic4!!

no. and that's coming from a 17-40 owner. (but I use mine on full frame, where I reap all its benefits).

The 10-22 is basically the crop sensor version of the 16-35 (it delivers almost exactly the same zoom range, and the lens even uses some of Canon's exotic glass that is normally only 'L' specific). Unless you wanted the weather sealing and the rock solid build quality, you'd just be spending cash for focal length you wouldn't be using. Not to mention a huge overlap (again, wasted) over your 24-105.

If you feel you don't use the UWA because 24mm is wide enough, sell it and get something else, like a 70-200 f/4 and/or perhaps a fisheye. Or just put the cash away for a rainy day. But I would keep the UWA.

No, I wouldn't go for the 17-40. You're only getting an extra 7mm of angle and the 24-105 is a great lens. Everything else is overlap.

If you want ultra wide angle and compatibility with full frame, just get a short focal length EF prime (i.e. 15mm).

17-40mm is best between 24-40mm. The rest is all distortion and corner softness. Your 24-105mm does the rest.

10-22 is meant to be sharp with little distortion. It depends if you need it, if not I'd second for 70-200mm.

Would you still want the 17-40mm f4 if it wasn't an L?

Keep the wide lens or if you want a standard zoom get a 17-50mm f2.8.

I have a 40D, 17-40 and a 10-22. I bought the 17-40 first, and it wasnt wide enough so I got the 10-22.

I'm only keeping my 17-40 for when I go full frame, but its not getting much use at the moment.

Thanks for the input peeps!! Most appreciated. I'll keep the 10-22
