Still on with the IR beam project and probably going to go down the hard wired road. Have seen some remote reviews and a release with a 10 metre cable was mentioned but with no details on where it could be sourced. Just done a bit of Googling and nothing coming up for that length. A normal length could be extended but would be simpler if I just had the one end to fiddle with.
Any help appreciated.
 
Maybe I'm missing something but why don't you go for a wireless (radio) remote release, surely that would get away from the problem of cable length then ?

I started thinking down that route but hard wiring probably more reliable, less battery power to worry about and marginally cheaper to buy. I can have a release with normal length cable but if I can source one with longer length it saves joining it.
Only downside is trailing lead but it should be out of harms way.
 
I just extended my canon cable release with a 5m extension bought from maplin... as long as the male/female jacks match your exisiting one, it shouldn't be a problem....

Not as easy as it could be with Nikon using their own 10 pin system rather than an offthe shelf solution.

I would (and have) gone for the wireless solution. Mine is a Hama one and came through Amazon. Haven't used the wired one (also Hama) since the wireless one arrived.
 
I have a phottix wireless trigger, and it's never missed a beat, and is still on it's original batteries.
 
10 pins for a remote? Riiiight....... :shrug:

I was going to suggest this method but I'm guessing it'll only work for up to 8 pins.

I know that''s for an off camera flash cord, but same principals should apply....(right?). Are all 10 pins really necessary? Could you ignore 2 of them :D

I don't think even 8 are used - someone bringing me a cable round tonight so I will soon find out.
I like the idea of a remote set up but will have to spend another 20-30 quid and the relay system is around £40 so trying to keep the costs down as pay back will probably be 3 months or more!!!
