Hi Guys

looking to get one of these so called dust pumps but was wondering if anything else out there that could be good alternative.

I need the IS as i shake a lot and to be honest i still use a rebel xti for photography.

I have a 70 - 300 IS but taking pictures in the surf just doesnt cut it i need that little bit more distance if you know what I mean.

I do have some cash about a grand to spend on a lens, any ideas greatly appreciated..

have 100-400. Its not so big dust pump. Yes, if you stand on the dusty road, or photographer sand storm, then yes.
Often used together with x1.4 extender. I like this lens. Like the way the lens draws background.

I had a Canon 100-400 L and a Sigma 150-500 OS and after a lot of testing for IQ, OS/IS and AF I decided to keep the Sigma. The IQ is very similar to the 100-400, OS is far better than the 100-400 and AF speed and accuracy was very similar too. I found the Sigma, despite being f6.3 at the long end, handled failing light better than the Canon too.

I got this at the Waddington airshow with the Sigma and my 5D3 and I doubt I could of got better considering the lighting conditions.

Funny that, I compared the sigmas against the 100-400 and kept the 100-400. In fact I now own two, both pin sharp and have been used in all weathers. I don't find them a dust pump at all, and thought the sigma 150-500 focussed slower and didn't seem as sharp. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but the Canon lens had that certain pop.

Maybe we both had poor copies of the other model?
