Tell me if im being picky here but if you crop in 100% shouldnt the point of focus be in focus ???
Is there a test to see if the camera or lens needs adjusting if there is a problem.
Cheers

Depends on the aperture used, if there was any camera shake or movement, the ISO used, the subject itself.

If it looks in focus enough at anything other than 100% then there is no problem really.

It was at 1.4 on a still object hand held i will try some on a tripod and double check.
But it did make me wonder is there a sheet to print off that could be photgraphed to check focus etc.By the way why would iso play a part in focus ??

ISO doesnt, but higher ISO it might look softer than it is beacuse of the grain.

At 1.4, handheld, you'd have to have hands of rock to the get the precise focus, the DOF is tiny, so even a fraction of movement will move the focus by a few mm.

You can download various charts, but I really wouldnt bother. If the picture looks at normal sizes, then there is no point trying to fix something that doesnt really exsist.

If the focus at f/8 at normal sizes was off, then yes maybe, but at 100% at f/1.4, no point..

I tried it on tripod now at 1.4 and was still a bit out at 100% but it was better with mirror lock up. Like i said maybe i was being picky as at normal sizes the pics are fine.
I would still like to try another canon side by side just to ease my niggles.
