Another from the 1912 set of glass plates.

The building was the local school in the Fens near Ely built between two "settlements", one of which now is just a few cottages as at the time of the photo, Oxlode had pubs and cottages for the "Bankers" who maintained the raised banks of the New Bedford River and lighters carried goods up the river - now long gone and mainly a wildfowl reserve overlooking the washes. The rear of the building was St Georges Church, daughter to our Parish Church. Church and school now a private dwelling since the late 1970's. Occasionally I would attend services there.
Note how the girls out dressed the scruffy urchins who look more than ready for mischief. Sadly we have no names. I like the face through the fence.

Another very nice bit of history resurrected here. The power of photography allowing us time travel, all be it to just a 1/30th of a second 100 years ago!
