I am 60 and over the years of doing video and photography have built up a collection of Tripods, Monopods and various other types of support and have one big GRIPE and that is the number of different Quick Release Plates that they all use.

My main DSLR at the moment is a Canon EOS 7D and my camcorder is a Canon XH-A1, my wife now uses a Canon EOS 550D and a Canon HV30 camcorder and we share the supports and my two concerns are eventual damage to the threads by keep attaching and detatching the QR plates and the risk of dropping whilst changing in the field.

I sure that I read somewhere that there is a Universal Adaptor that allows any camera and support to connect without having to change the QR plate.

Was this a dream or does it exist ?

All my supports accept the Manfrotto RC2 QR plate. Mostly because they're Manfrotto heads but the few that aren't have an adaptor fitted that converts the head/screw to a Manfrotto QR. Pretty sure THIS is the adapter I've used - one came from HERE and another was a very kind donation from a member on this site in exchange for a contribution to a specified charity.

Cameras/lenses that I use on the tripod have plates that I never take off!
