100mm Macro lens not working with 300D

Well, as per the title really. Have a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens which works perfectly with my b/f's 40D body. However, when attached to my 300D body, the camera completely fails to work. Won't even switch on (and yes, the battery was fully charged :p ). Had a quick look at the net and found various pictures taken with this body/lens combo so there must be a way to make it work.

Anyone experienced something similar and know how to fix it?

Although the LCD monitor may remain blank, do you see any sign of life in the smaller LCD above it or the access lamp flash briefly (to the lower right of the button quadrant?

Sorry for the late response. Nope, there is no sign of life on the wee lcd screen & the wee light doesn't flash. Even looking through the viewfinder all I get is blank greyness (and yes, I've taken the lens cover off lol ;) ).

Anyone have any ideas?
