105mm f/2.8D AF Micro-Nikkor

This lens seems to get very good reviews. Good, used ones are quite a bit cheaper than the latest VR model and some blurb I was reading mentioned that because it has an aperture ring it will take accessories such as extension tubes (whereas the G model won't). Does anyone use one of these lenses on an FX body & if so, whats your opinion on it?

The G model will take extension tubes, it just requires more expensive tubes with electrical contacts.
The D version will work with cheaper purely mechanical tubes that just have an aperture leaver going through.

Just thought that was worth mentioning if it affects your decision.

I've used both, both excellent, petsonally never felt the need for tubes on top of the 1/1 ratio.

I had the D version on the D700, it's a very nice lens. I got rid of the Nikon gear recently and still have it kicking about in the bag.

I'm using on a d300 tho (no full frame sorry) but it is a really great lens!
Used with manual tubes (read tenner from cowaski!) and manually setting the aperture/focus. Works really well. Try the following flickr link to the 105mm pics. Some with tubes.

@vince - Thanks for the link, some very nice shots there- what flash do you use if needed for a closeup with this lens?

Currently the onboard.
Can use a flash gun (the mount on the top) with a diffuser (I have a foldable lumiquest one). Unfortunately last holiday I had with my oh relative I left the flash n diffuser behind :bonk: :bang: :shake:

You might be able to get away with on board and some tissue paper..?
