Hello!

I just got me a domain name from 123-reg & read on here that you can get an email like name@domainname.co.uk & have any mail sent there to your own email address. Is this free? only once I'd bought my domain name it said I could have a domain email 'from 75p a month'

Any help/guidance greatly appreciated!

For 123-reg to host your email they will charge you.

You can setup Google Apps to use your domain and you can have upto 50 email addresses for free.

There's just a little bit of manual setup.

If you're interested, sign up for a Google Apps account here
And this is a guide to setup 123-reg DNS records to be used with google apps.

Once that's done, follow through the Google Apps guides on how to set up different email addresses :)

set up email forwarding to your isp email account.

then use filters to spread it around on your mail client.

from the control panel , choose email -> choose domain to manage

create a new email address, then you have a pull down which is either buy a new mailbox (that they will host) or forward to another email address (free)

Sooo.. Am I right in saying, that I don't need to pay 123reg for a domain email, butcan still direct anymail that goes to it, to another address?

Sorry.. Does. Not. Compute.

Thanks for the links btw. Just off to check them out now & see if this makes any more sense :p

You can redirect for free, but if you need/want email via 123-reg itself then it's £1 per month

Ok.. I'm not trying to be a pain in the backside here (honest), but does that mean that really, I can have mail directed from anyone elses email address?

Or, am I going completely senile, and actually, I get an email address with my domain, but in order to be able to access it to read/send mail, I pay 123? & If not, I have it sent straight to mine..?

Sorry, female, and not quite as bright as I usually am!

Basically, with the free service emails to your domain go first of all to 123-reg(pipex) who then forward them on to the email account that you use to collect mail.

You set up the list of forwarding rules on their site - see instructions above - they also allow a catchall to pick up emails to that domain but not to a specifically listed address.

So if your isp email address is lknight@tiscali.com you would set up the 123-reg account to redirect say loiuse@girlyblonde.com to lknight@tiscali.com :)

emails to louise@mynewdomain.com will then end up in your email that you normally collect.

Depending on the email client that you use it is easy/difficult/impossible to send emails from differnt addresses. I use thunderbird and can just type in the from field the address that I want my emails to seem to come from. But if you set up your mail client to show the from address as louise@mynewdomain.com then when they reply the reply will go (via 123-reg) to your isp and show up in your mailbox.

To be clear, I have a domain with 123-reg, I send and recive fine with multiple email addresses and I pay nothing over and above the basic domain fee.

I user email forwarding from my domain with 123 reg.
It's easy on the PC. Set forwarding within 123 reg and thn alter your email account in outlook to send the response address as what you set your domain up.
