135mm f2 lens mount issue

I have just bought a used one off the dreaded ebay for my 5D mk2 and it is a very tight fit when attaching it. It seems to work OK but where my 24-105 clicks in nice and smoothly this one needs some pressure when turning it into the lens mount. Before I send it back can anyone confirm if this is just the way they are or does it look like I have been sent a duffer?
 
That doesn't sound right - mine just clicks on smoothly like any other lens. That sounds like the bayonet may be slightly bent which might suggest it's been dropped...
 
Yes, sounds like the right thing to do! If it has been dropped or taken a hard-enough knock to bend the bayonet, it might also have damaged the USM motor or knocked the lens elements slightly out of alignment.
 
Raging! Just had this response from the seller;


"This item was sold with a returns policy of "no returns accepted". This is clearly shown on the listing.

It was described as having "the odd small mark" as well as having "lots of small scratches on the lens hood".

It was never described as being in "mint condition", which seems to be what you were expecting.

The lens has never been dropped to my knowledge, and I have never had a problem attaching it to any of our 3 Canon DSLRs.

There is variance within engineering tolerances, so maybe it is slightly stiff on your camera, or maybe you are just very sensitive?

The scuff mark you mention was the only mark I found on the lens itself, and it is small, about a centimetre long. I didn't see any other marks but I put in the description that the lens had "the odd small mark" incase there was something I had missed.

The lens works flawlessly and optically it is in perfect condition, which you don't seem to dispute.

You seem to think you could have purchased a mint condition lens cheaper, if that is the case, it's your fault, not mine.

I think your demand to send the lens back and have your postage refunded it totally unjustified."

Suppose I should have known better than to buy on ebay. I tried the lens on my 500d too and it is really stiff on that also. In the description the seller described it as "the lens would look like new if it had a new lens hood". Absolute garbage. Ebay dispute it is then :(
 
Oh dear :( Maybe it would be worth taking it into a Canon authorised dealer and getting them to check it over. At least that way you'd know if it is perfect optically and mechanically, and they could tell you if the bayonet was within tolerance or not. I guess if it focuses OK and seems to be optically fine you may be OK to keep it...
 
Good luck with your dispute, it took me several weeks and phone calls to get a refund on a faulty lens I bought on there. Seller refused to refund, I raised a dispute which Ebay found in my favour, seller then issued a refund which, after several days of 'clearing' - bounced. Had to escalate again and request a refund via their buyer protection thing, there was lots of stalling but eventually it did come through. Not a pleasant experience though.
 
Depends on how tight you're talking,but my 14mm II was rather a tight fit on my old 5D II compared to all of my other lenses right up to the day I sold the body.
Although it fits like a glove on my Mark III.
 
If you paid via Paypal, just kick off a dispute that way, and make sure you include the sellers response. Paypal will usually side on the buyers side.

The seller has now agreed to refund, although he won't pay the return postage so I'll have to take that on the chin I supposed.

The cheeky [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] even tried to suggest I was doing this for "free lens rental" for a wedding I'm shooting on Saturday!
