Yes
Just bought myself a 16GB memory card
Put it in my Nikon and after a few restarts works fine in my Nikon D90

now the amount of pictures i can take says 2.1k

does this mean i can take 2100 pictures ??? i was kinda hoping for more with a 16GB card

any ideas??

thank you

Karl

It depends what you resolution and what format you save it at. So you can save a lot more if you like.

I reckon on ~4Mb for a large JPEG full quality, and ~12Mb for a compressed RAW shot on Nikon.

So a 16GB card would give ~4000 for JPEG and ~1350 for RAW.

The shot estimate figure on my D700 is usually way under what the actual figure will turn out to be. Probably calculated on worst case detail.

2.1K  .. that's the equivalent to 58 rolls of films! That's pretty much plenty .. though, I understand your need for more :p, we all do.

The estimate changes with ISO speeds too if it works like my Canon

I have a Sandisk Extreme 3 CF card and on my D300s it says i get 2.2k shots but i usually get more. it only uses an estimate file size.

You can go down to basic/small setting .

On my 4 gig card gives me5.2 so times that x 4 should result in around 21000 shots. No problems continuous shooting that number but I hate to think of checking and editing . Then supposing the average number of shutter movements is 150.000 according to Nikon, then you will be able to use the card about 7 times before sending the camera back for a new shutter system.

Depending on the amount of colour information in the file the jpeg on a 300s will range from 2.5MB to 10MB I assume it will be the same on a D90. A 16GB CF card in mine will state 1.4K on an empty card. The mega pixel count only dictates the size you can print to. As most people will not print much higher than 9X6 you can shoot on medium size but on high quality to achieve more shots per card. Remember that a high mega pixel does not mean good quality, that’s set by what the camera does with the tools at hand. I've printed shots taken on an 8 mega pixel camera on A0 with no loss of quality!

So determine what you’ll be doing with your shots and go from there.

well i bought it as me n the gf are off to Florida on 5th Dec so i just want to be covered so i have got 16gb and 8gb card but was just confused thinking that a 16gb card should ideally hold more then 2100 but if they always state under then not to worry :D

Cheers
