17” Unibody MacBook Pro battery problems …

Does anyone know of any battery anomalies with this specific laptop? It was bought, new, back in April / May, and one of the best things about it was the battery life of more than 7 hours (closer to 8 hours).

Now, I barely get 3 hours out of it! … anyone knows what may be causing this drastic drop … anyone read anything about such an issue? For the records, this is the matt screen version.

I have another 17” Unibody MacBook Pro, gloss screen, and this one seems perfectly fine giving me over 7 hours battery life.

Both were bought at the same time, both are running exactly the same applications, both have WiFi on when tested.

Thanks for any help / pointers.

apple just replaced my uni body battery under warranty no hassles

trouble is the new ones not much better than the old one

Great to hear that

Can I ask, is yours 17" matt screen? What kind of problems did you encounter?

Wail,

You do get the odd failure and this sounds like one of those. Forget all the old wives tails that you are bound to hear about batteries as most of these relate to previous generations of them. As it is under a year old apple will simply replace it. Over a year old they will still replace it if the cycles are below a certain level. It should last longer than 3 hours unless you are watching a DVD or playing games or something like that. How many cycles is it on? What power is it charging to?

Thanks for the input ... I am currently doing a test to make sure I charge it to 100% and then drain it all the way down; I will do this with WiFi on & no video, with WiFi on & watching video, with WiFi off & no video and WiFi off & watching video .. this should give me a better understanding of power consumption.

How many cycles is it on? I have no idea, how do I work that out?

As for what power it is charging to .. that's a very good question, hence why I want to do the test above; but it charges all the way until the light (in the power chord) turns green .. so, I was under the impression that it was 100% charged

Again, thank you for the input .. I will do my tests over the next 2 ~ 3 days and will let you know what I find out.

Thank you beardboy , thank you very much :)

That teddy-bear chap does an outstanding job with the thread you're refering to. The only thing, this is bugging me :bonk: and I can't get my head around to do much thinking :bonk: ... thank you for pointing me in the right direction :)

Mine has only 305 and it says replace NOW.. I called apple as I have applecare and they said this is normal life of a battery... I beg to differ I thought it was very low cycle count and you have just proved my point.

£97 for a new one NOT covered by my applecare :(
