18-105 autofocus died?

A couple of months ago I noticed my autofocus on my 18-105 I got with my D90 seems to have died, it's out of warranty , and it's not my main short lens but was handy as a backup. It will sometimes when I've tested it focus at between about 18-35mm range but this starts and stops.

I know this is a long shot but any chance there's any potential fixes for it? My other lenses are all working fine so it's 100% the lens, have checked I had switches and all the basic idiot stuff, no damage I can see and there was no event like a drop before it stopped working.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas :) Thanks!

Try cleaning the contacts with the appropriate alcohol on both the camera and the lens? If that doesn't work, have a look up online at inspection tests and do those in order to troubleshoot?

Other than that I'd say get a pro to evaluate it!
