18-55mm EF IS

I really like the length of my non IS kit lens but not so keen on picture quality,
If I bought the IS version would I notice a big improvement?

If you can afford it, go for the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (about £240).

Thanks Jim, I think I'll sell my 55-250 for some funds towards it as I just don't use it :nono:
