18-55mm lens not auto-focusing on 40D

Hello all,

My lens as above is refusing to auto-focus. It will focus manually and I have tried another lens, my 70-300mm which will auto-focus.

Upon having a hunt around here and via Goodle, I have;

Tried a different lens - no problems
Removed and fully recharged the battery
Removed the clock battery
Cleaned the contacts on the lens with a rubber

But all to no avail.

Setting the camera to "Auto" the shutter speed on the top LCD will flash, change to around 1"3 and then say "BUSY"

I am unable to select an auto-focus point in any other mode, though the motor sounds like it's trying.

Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms and have any suggestions?

Unfortunately it sounds like the AF motor has given up which means it'll be either a repair or replacement and bearing in mind what lens it is you may well be better off looking for a second hand replacement which are available for around £40-50.

Many thanks, that's a bummer - I only just got it (Gumtree, but it worked for a week without issue, so I don't think the seller could have known).

My lens is IS, do you still reckon a repair wouldn't be worth it?
