I've just upgraded to a 500D from a 1000D and plan on selling the 1000D as it's now not needed. Once sold, the only other lens I will own will be 70-300 IS USM so I need a walk around lens.
I'd be happy with another 18-55 for now but thought that while I need to get a new lens I might do a little shopping around. I've done loads of searches on here and google looking for an answer but got no where so I thought I'd post here.
I'm ideally after a telephoto lens and was wondering what is best to get. I dont want to break the bank but if it's worth is then I dont mind spending a little extra. Sigma/Tamron lenses also considered. Help please!:help:
 
I like that but probably a little too expensive for now. Thanks for your input :thumbs:
 
I'm a complete noob but I use my Tamron 18-210 quite a bit and seems very adaptive to most situations.
 
I own a canon 28-135 and it does the walk about thing very well and is a great lens for little money.

Try Tamron 17-50 2.8, its a great lens and produces very sharp photos. Only downside is rather slow and loud AF (it is not that bad imo). Used ones go for quite cheap, or if budget allows you can also get newer optically stabilised version. :)
 
I would recommend the Tamron 17-50 too. I just sold one because i wanted to buy a prime but if it's that range your looking for then you wont regret it. £250 brand new from onestopdigital with no import duty. A total bargain !!
 
I recently got a 2nd hand 17-55mm f/2.8 from this forum's for sale section, fabulous lens, and now my most frequently used lens.

It's worth the extra!

not breaking your bank + way better then the kit lens then as already advise tamron 17-50 2.8 non VC.

I have one and I love it... not as much as my nifty or my 100 macro but its great
