1D batteries...genuine or not?

So me being a plank, I've managed to lose one of my canon 1D mkii batteries :( I've heard a lot about this subject and I'm not sure really what to do..had a look and the rrp on a new canon one is 150 pounds. Were as the repro ones are about 1/3 of the price... Am I going to have problems with a non genuine one?

I got two for £35 inc' del' on the bay. Haven't had any prob's yet, but only had them 7 months.

I got one from Ebay for my 1Ds Mk II for about £25.00 and so far no real problems.

I've used Ebay before for batteries for a 350D, 450D and the 1Ds.

There is also a YouTube video about replacing the batteries inside the unit with 9xAAs when the unit becomes defunct if you're feeling REALLY adventurous!

+1 for the Cheapo Alternative Batteries

Used many and as long as they are not chipped (1D MKII is not of course) then there is no problem using them with your original charger,

Would go for the compatible every time and spend the savings on something more useful.
 
I bought 3 1Ds2 batteries several months ago, the NP-E3, for around the £25 mark and all 3 have broke at the turning lock point. Maybe it's my heavy fingers but for 3 non-originals to break and the original to still be unbroken says something to me. I personally won't be buying the cheap equivalent on ebay again.
 
I have 2 originals & 2 ebay specials.

The two originals are a perfect fit but don't hold on to their charge so well anymore. Still good for about 400 shots each.

One of the eBay's is great, the other wasn't great until I tightened some screws and then it was fine.

I'd definitely NOT spend £150 on a battery when eBay can help at a fraction of the price!

This might sound redicilious but if tou dont ise genuine batteries insurance can sometimes decide to use that as a good excuse not to payout if they find out...... (any excuse notto cover is hey)
 
Not sure if this is any help or not but these 3 last as long as the Canon one.

I bought some for my 1ds before and they were great (2800 capacity) but the only problem was that the button mechanism didn't work (not the turning lock but the button that you press to release the battery). Wasn't a problem for me - you can also replace the ends from your genuine batteries to get around the problem.
 
As well as the locking button mechanism not working properly, I bought some third party batteries that simply were the wrong dimensions and had to be held in by hand to get the camera to power up. I'd prefer the Canon ones myself.
 
Another vote for the 7dayshop ones here.
 
I would spend out and get originals even if they cost a little more, insurance would cover against loss. Still I suppose you get what you pay for so, if you buy cheap then expect problems.
