1D Mk2 a worthwhile upgrade from 450d?

I've enjoyed my 450d over the past few months but am thinking I could do with something a bit faster shooting motorsport (Le Mans, Rally GB etc).

Would a 1d Mk2 or Mk2N be a worthwhile upgrade? I'll have to upgrade my lenses from the EF-S stuff I've got, thinking about 24-105 and 70-200 F4 but hope that the combination will focus quicker and also think the weather sealing will be useful.

Any thoughts on swapping a nearly new consumer camera for an older pro model?

The 70-200 F4L isn't weather sealed, btw.

It would be a great upgrade for sports, definitely. From what I've heard, the mk2 N is the way to go, for the improved features over the standard mk2 :)

Edit: two keywords in "new consumer" and "older pro". They are 'consumer' and 'pro'. Given the choice (and money!) I'd definitely choose a 1Dmk2 over a 450D

Yep, I'd go for it. I went from a 450D to a 1Ds which, apart from being full frame, is even more of a backwards step, and I wouldn't go back.

The look and feel of a Canon 1D MK IIN will make you feel proud to own a Canon. I'm am not to keen on this camera because of the menu system. If you can work your way around that then its the camera to have. It is getting old though, there going for around £700 so it's a lot of money for a old camera.

Well Worth the upgrade fro Sports, and Motorsports,

Is an "Old" Camera, but if it has produced stunning results in the past and now, then that wont change in the future just because "New" Tech comes out, Shop around just like buying a car, look for a good example with history and you cant go far wrong.

I really wouldn't worry about getting the IIn over the II though... it's got a bigger screen and picture styles and asyncronous file type writing to cards and that's about it - essentially both do the same thing... the important thing though is if you shoot JPEG make sure you bung up the sharpness to max - otherwise you'll think it has a problem when it hasn't (like I did LOLZ)

I agree.

If it helps - I've not used my 40D since getting an older 1D Mark II.

The autofocus just gets me shots that the 40D would never hit.
