1D MK4 AF vs 1D MK3 AF

HI to all, I am considering upgrading from a 1D MK3 to a 1D MK4, mainly for improved AF. However, I've been reading that the new 5D MK3 has a better AF system than the 1D MK4 and at 6 frames a second it is fast enough for what I want. Problem is, I'm pretty sure I would miss the 1.3 crop factor though, so my question is this:
How much better is the MK4 AF than the MK3 AF, has anyone upgraded? Also does it handle noise better?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at a 5D3 for exactly the same reasons - best AF and 6fps is enough for me. Remember you need L grade lenses for good AF. Also, with 22mp it will crop down to 13mp at 1.3x format :thumbs:

Im with you on this but i think we will have to waite a while for results that show how good the AF is -for me that's bird photography if its good at that then it should be great at everthing else :)

Bird photography for me too. Arty Morris is using one for birds in flight (see Birdsasart) and he loves it.

intresting ,it is looking like a very good birding camera another thing is the fact that croping to the mk4s 1.6 as Hoppyuk says still gives 13mp and thats only 3 less than the mk4 .

Out in the field if you were to get just 10/15 ft closer to a bird thats 60ft away you would just about pull the 3mp back again:)

Prolly just a typo, but 1D4 is 1.3x crop and would equate to 13mp from a 5D3. Cropping down to 1.6x format would be 8.7mp equivalent.

Well that is some report from a body straight out of the box and without reading the manual....Or changing the menu settings
