Yes
My 1D MkIII arrived this morning (well actually I went and collected it from the depot as I couldn't wait any longer) and I have been having a play.

No pictures as yet but is nicer to use in all but the vertical mode where the 1D MkII is much more comfortable, the 1DMkIII has a sharper ridge which is not as pleasant to hold than the curve on the 1D MkII.

Apart from the slight improvements in the pixel count, ISO range, larger screen and the button layout, I have not noticed a dramatic difference between the two although of course I have not really taken any proper photographs with it yet.

Hopefully we will have a couple of days of reasonable weather this week and I can go out and give them all a trial against each other.

I'll look forward to seeing the results when it comes to picture quality :)

I'll be keeping an eye out on this to as after getting the mk2n i wont be going back to the xxd range anytime soon and im quite keen on the mk3.

20 minutes and still no pictures

Will be interesting to see the comparisons, hope you get some good weather for it but if it does come over very dark and stormy at least you can try out the high ISO on them all :D

also looking forward to seeing the results as you know I have just got the mk3 but havent had the time or weather to have a real bash.
I have found at the moment focus is a bit hit and miss on fast moving things but I think that is diown to me and the settings

You're having me on?

You think?

How many cameras can you get through in 12 months?!

Well I've actually only got rid of 2, the 5D and the 5D Mk2. I bought the 1D MkII, liked it, had the opportunity to buy a new 1D MkIII at a great price (due to the 1D MkIV being released) so took it.

Did my wife get you to ask this?

Nope, but I was hoping you might want to buy my silence. :D

Funny that! I was hoping you might want to buy my 1D MkII :p

persisting it down with rain again, not a happy bunny! I suppos I could try out the weatherproofing!

why did you get rid of the 5D MKII?

I want to try my hand at sports and wildlife (not something I have really tried in over 30 years of photography), so I bought a 7D found that it would do most all that I required (I don't need massive prints) so sold the 5D MkII.

My only regret is getting rid of my 12-24mm Sigma as it was a great lens, I don't miss the 5D MkII at all.

It's interesting Ed, that was the decision I made when the MkIII came out and why I ran a 1DII for a while before getting rid of it to replace it with a lighter cropped camera as my back up.

I still run a 1DsII and, at the moment, the price of the 1DsIII does not give me enough of an upgrade to justify a £2000 price hike. I think I may change once the 1DsIV is out as I should be able to get a used MkIII for much less money. But, I may still stick with the MkII. The upgrade from the MkII to the MkIII was a relatively small step.

In a moment of madness I sold my 1ds mk2 and regreted it 10 min later :bang: so that left me with a 1dmk3
and I do shoot with 2 bodies, so I got a 1dmk2N to go with the mk3 but that was no good as I shoot with my 500 on the full frame and 300 on the mk3 at the powerboat racing and that worked nice for me, so off goes the N and im looking for another 1dsmk2 but could not find one at the right money and condition that I wanted, so to me it made sence to look for a 1dsmk3 as everything is the same as my 1dmk3 battery, charger
and the camera itself, I found one 12 month old with a spare brand new battery and 2 year DG warranty for £3100 so I had to have it, to me this camera is a big upgrade to the 1dsmk2, 14bit, battery life, a screen I can see and better High iso noise, and to some the extra MP but 16 was enough for me.

I did the Tour of Britain with a pro who used a 1DMkII over a MkIII, for 'reliability' reasons. He was sending his photos off to the national press every evening. If it's good enough for him it's good enough for me :)

that's interesting....was that due to the af issues on the mk3?

It's interesting how perspectives vary isn't it. I have to say that of the issues you've raised, none really bother me too much. 14 bit - I don't find my images lacking in depth anyway - sure more is nice but I don't look at mine and worry! Battery life - would be nice but 2 batteries gets me 2000 shots (except in sub zero). Screen, don't really use it. Histogram is it for me and the small screen is fine.

I am interested in the noise comments as most reviews reckon they are about the same.

For me, the biggest uplift would be in the buffer size but its still not worth a £2k cost to change.
