1D MkIII Cheeky Ask

Big ask I know, but is there anyone with a 1D MkIII anywhere local to Lincoln who would let me shoot off a few shots with it. I have a 7D and I find it too noisy for my taste and I'm thinking of replacing it with either a 1D MkIII or a new 70D when it's released. I'd really like to try a 1D MkIII before I decide so hence the request. Please PM me if you can help.

Just buy one - super bit of kit - only the LCD of the 7D beats the 1D3, pretty much everything else is better on the 1D3.

Having owned both I'd agree with this. I much preferred the images, build, AF, battery life, ergonomics and pretty much everything about the 1DIII. The negative was LCD and megapixels, both of which are questionable 'upgrades'.

I also owned the 7D and went on to the 1D Mk3 which i much preferred everything about the 1D Mk3 over the 7D.

I think I'll hang on a couple of days for the next Canon announcement. If the 70D is going to be as good as some of the rumours say I might just go for that instead but if the 70D is going to be a disappointment then the 1D MkIII it will be.

I thought I'd found a perfect one earlier but it was a 1Ds MKII marked up as a MkIII in a shop. Would still like to have a play with one though.

I also have the 1D3 and like others...what a tool it is, I find I pick this up more than my 5D2 for even the family snap shots

yes supposed to be announced tomorrow be interesting to see if canon dont just add one thing from the 60d lets hope the rumors are true

Well after a lot of pondering and disappointment over the delay of the 70D I have finally made the decision and ordered myself a 1D MkIII. I went to the park yesterday (6th June) and was very disappointed with the results of my 7D.

Was trying to shoot birds and squirrels and had my Sigma 150-500 OS on. I was struggling to get a fast enough SS in anything but direct sunlight. Once the ISO got up to 1600 to get the SS fast enough it was too noisy and even when I put my Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII I was struggling in the shade. Comparing the quality of the shots of the 7D and my 5D MkIII and that was it. The 7D has been consigned to the realms of bright and sunny conditions only (it's great in the sunshine) and will be compared to the 1D MkIII in all situations and the best one of the two will be kept and the other one sold.

If and ever the 70D eventually gets released I'll have a comparison with the winner of the 7D and 1D MkIII and if the 70D wins then that will be added to my collection in the future.
