Looking for a second Canon body for a little sports photography. Would the 1D Mk2N fit the bill ok? Can you manually adjust shutter speeds (low) to blur background for sports shots etc?

I no nothing about the 1D range, I use a 5D Mk1. Any advice/experience appreciated.

I've around £800 to play with for a good/decent body.

The 1DIIn will be perfect (in my opinion) for sports. The 5Dc is a great camera, but the 1 series have superb autofocus. The burst rate is pretty good for action too (8fps). Lowering shutter speed? You can do that on any camera, just use TV.
 
Anything you can do with the 5D you can do with the 1DmkIIn so no worries there. The AF system is amazing on the 1DmkIIn and having 8fps (or is it 8.5?) to play with is simply great. I think I saw one just go up in the for sale section, problem is I don't think you can use that yet as you don't have the 100 posts which is a shame.

Actually I just did a search and checked and it has just been sold :( for £600 with 33,000 clicks. For your budget you should do fine.
 
Can the 1D IIN do sports? Errrm yes, it was designed for sport and was a top of the range pro body... so yes, sport, no problem :)

Obviously is has been replaced with the MkIII which in turn was replaced with the MkIV but those two improved on something which really was the only serious choice for professional sport coverage at the time.

The IIN still cuts it as long as you understand its 8 mega pixel and "high ISO" also wasn't a selling point back then, but outdoor daytime sport is still easy to get stunning results.
 
Yeah you won't go wrong with the 1D2n with your needs and budget. I loved mine for wildlife until I got the 1DIV

Both good cameras, I use my 5D1 for low light, high ISO, slow moving things and my 1D2 for fast moving stuff. They work well together.
 
I agree the 1DMKIIN is a suberb sports camera, you should be able to pick up one for a good price (£600-£700).I us the MKIIN and MKIII for my football shots, and they have not let me down .
 
I have a 1D Mk iiN going spare. Less than 10,000 actuations. Comes with everything from new - box, manuals, discs, charger etc

I bought it.lol Looks like an awesome camera. I went for this and glass over a 7d, il post a message about how it handles when I get it.

One of the best still although not as good as trhe most modern cameras now.

Shutter speed has nothing to do with blurring background (unless you mean panning). The 1D2n will be fine in that case,

Read the manual when you get it. The focus system is light years ahead of the 5D and the speed is fantastic.

I didn't know the 1D Mk2-N was a 8mega-pixal camera, is this still good enough for sports quality. My 5D Mk1 is around 12.9mega-pixel, so would the 1D Mk2-N be less quality etc?


Sorry for my inexperience regards the 1D bodies.

Honestly 8MP is fine. Keeps the file sizes down and the images are great. I've a few heavily cropped photos on my flickr from the 1DII (same camera just with smaller LCD smaller buffer and other minor changes). Also (dunno if this is allowed) have a look at the 1DII owners thread on POTN. Some people were recently discussing printing sizes and what not: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=458150&page=641

I'm more than happy with the image quality from mine but I came from a 20D (via 1Dc) so you might think differently.
 
I ahve some 30x20 inch prints from my 1D2n and they are fine. Don't worry about the 8MP too much

Suppose it's all down to using good fast glass/panning skills/quality printing!!


So I'm now looking for a mint/ex condition/boxed/non-abused 1D Mk2-N if anyone knows of one for sale please.
