Looking at upgrading my 1Dmk2N as I'm having noise issues indoor at high iso when shooting sports :( My options I think are a used 1D3 or new 5D2 or 7D. I do a bit of sports, portrait landscape etc as I have no prefered style of photography but can't decide what's best for me other than I would like to shoot over 1000 iso? I bought my 1Dmk2N over the 50D and although I love it it has only got around 6,000 actuations and still looks new so difficult to decide what to do as if I went 1D3 I wouldn't get one in the same condition in budget? I'm currently looking at updating to lightroom 4 (as per my 'noise' thread) but wondering if it's better to jump to a newer body or percivere? Any advise greatly appreciated :)
 
The 5DMK2 is probably an outright no go as the AF and FPS will be quite a stepdown from your current camera. The 7D will have AF and FPS but IQ and ISO performance won't be as good as a 1D3, which is what I'd go for personally.
 
I would agree with the previous post completely. I own both the 5D 2 & the 7D.
I absolutely adore the 5D 2 but it will not be a good choice for what you want
As much as I love the 5D 2 I absolutely loathe my 7D, it's ok when the sun shines but other than that anything above 800iso is atrocious
Don't know an awful lot about the 1D3 as I'm currently looking ad a 1D1v
Hope you manage to get sorted & avoid costly mistakes.
 
Thanks for the replys, that's exactly what I wanted to hear so I don't buy the wrong body. Good to hear the 7d has issues over 800 iso so thats no good as that's my biggest issue. I will look for a good used 1dmk3 or wait a bit and go 1dmk4

I agree, the 1D MKIIn is a little bit old in the tooth technology wise on its ISO performance nowadays, but still holds its own on autofocus performance. As for a camera to replace it that will work well in low light conditions for sports, the 7D and 5D MKII just won't cut the mustard, the 5D autofocus performance in low lights rubbish and the ISO performance on the 7D ain't much better than the 1D MKII

The 1D MKIII or MKIV would be the better options, but used the MKIV still near £3K and the MKIII is still holding its used price. The 5D MKIII has a significant improvement in its autofocus system, tick one for its ISO performance, but still not sure if it meets low light autofocus tracking capabilities of the 1D MKIV, but then again, ideal for portraits and landscapes, so the question to you is, what do you mainly take photo's of, actions or landscape/studio work.

Or an alternative the 1Ds MKIII might also be a contender, used prices around the £2K mark
 
Thanks for the reply, looks like I'm keeping the 1D for now. Whilst looking at options I requested a trade in price and even though it's like new with less actuations I thought it's worth next to nothing. I love the 1D and only started going to 800 / 1000 iso recently and still really need to go higher. Hopefully better noise reduction in LR4 will help me out for now as a newer 1D definately seems the way forward at some point. Thanks for all the advise given which has stopped me going the wrong direction :clap:
