I have seen a 1d3 for sale but they report that the camera givea an errir 1 when its fired wirh no lens attached

Has anyone heard of this or whar it might mean, i know an error 1 is usually a contacts issue but it should fire wirhout that warning and im wondering if its a warning of a largee issue

By the way soery for the typosbut its being written on a cheap naff tablet!
 
You could try setting CFn IV-7 to 1 to allow the body to emulate the aperture setting.

Cheers Bob, it took me a little time to find what that setting was, but this is what I found:

C.Fn IV-7 Av setting without lens = 1 Enable – useful for synchorizing setting in manual mode if you are using two bodies for example

Can you expand on this a little for me?
Also if this were set to 0 would this behave as the seller suggests?

The concept is that anyone using two bodies with a single lens can perform an instant swap and have speed and aperture ready to go.

For you problem, the body thinks it wants to talk to a lens and setting the CFn to 1 tells it that there's no lens to talk to....simplez. If Err 01 continues with the CFn set to 1 then it would seem to be a little more sinister IMHO.

They tried it for me and it does the same but did remind me that they offer a six month guarantee.

What do you think, worth the risk for the saving or steer clear?
 
Depends how much you're risking. Sounds obscure but if it works normally and the price is right then why not.

Looks like after all that I'll be picking one up on these forums - a little more but for the peace of mind worth it to me as I'd always have been wondering if I had a mistake.
