Hiya

Quick question ive been trying to connect my 1d to my laptop via firewire and a 4 pin to 4 pin cable. It doesnt recognise the camera at all. Am i using the right cable or is it supposed to be a 4 pin to 6 pin via a normal pc firewire connection?

Any help appreciated!
 
Thanks for the reply mate, my bloomin laptops are all 4 pin! Might take the camera to pc world and try it on a desktop or something.
 
4-4 works as its what I used to use
are you getting a little sync logo on the bottom rear screen on the camera?
 
no i get nothing at all
 
yeah i managed that alright, updated to the latest eos utility. Plugged the cable in and turned the camera on - nothing, wiggled the cable a bit and still nothing. Dont even get a pop up on vista saying its found anything.
 
I had nothing but trouble trying to get my old 1D MKIIN to connect and I tried both PC and Mac via firewire. In the end I gave up then got the 1D MKIII and this connects no problem.

Sorry it doesnt help you out like but at the time I tried everything to no avail, really burned my head out at the time, and not because I needed it to work but because once I tried it and knew it didnt work then it just did my head in.

I fancy the mark 3 anyway and your not helping my bank balance here! i dont really need it to work its just i hate things that dont work!
 
Sorry mate. If it helps I didnt buy the MKIII just because the firewire didnt work ;)
 
I think i'll have a trip to LCE tomorrow and see if they can get it to connect and i'll only look at the Mk3 they have in :love:
 
It could be worse, I went and got a firewire cable got it home, hooked up the camera - then discovered that none of the laptops or my pc have a firewire port :bang: :bang:
If anyone buys my 1Ds it comes with a nice new firewire cable :lol:

Be careful with the MkIII though, you will love it your bank balance will not!!
 
Well after a trip to LCE it looks like the firewire port is broken. Ive emailed Lehmans and Fixation to get an idea of a price. Lehmans wont quote with out seeing it which is fair enough.

Anyone had any experience of this or a similar repair and an idea of how much it will cost?

And i was good and left the Mk3 on the shelf!
 
Oh well bang goes the option of selling yours to fund a MKIII

Dread to think how much it will cost to repair that mate and I suppose you are seriously going to have to weigh up if the repair is worth it, will the cost of the repair be justifiable against the amount of times you are going to use the camera tethered?

Well the plus side is Lehmans dont charge for the estimate and i'll take it from there. I really dont need a Mk3 the Mk2 is more than enough for me (maybe if i say that enough i'll believe it eh!)
