I recently bought a fantastic 1ds mark ii from Paul on here (thanks Paul!!) :)

However, I have a small issue - the custom functions and name change of owner through the camera. I have read around and it seems that I need a firewire to do so. Would anyone know any specifics on this - ie I have a windows 7, 64bit laptop and I have read conflicting reports about the software working/not working.

I have 3 questions:
1 - is it possible to change this information without a firewire (as my laptop has no FW port)
2 - would a USB to firewire converter work, and where can I get one?
3 - would the software even work on my laptop?

A long shot I know but if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Youre not wrong, so well worht a thought there Mark.

Regarding the camera im loving it, to the point that it is getting a lot more action than my 5Dii at present. Its just so solid and nice to use! That being said its my first 1 series, so you may find it different looking at your present lineup. Im sure it will be a dream to use compared to the 1Ds though. The IQ is just beautiful :) Enjoy!
 
Can you not do it via Canon Eos Utilities as per the xxd series?

what has fire wire got to do with the software?

The 1ds is firewire only but the mk II is USB too.

I stand corrected...what a cock of crap..............Just read a whole bunch of solutions on dpreview but it looks like you will need a firewire card.

Well apparently the 1dsii was designed to operate through the firewire, with the USB being solely used for printing straight from the camera. Perhaps they thought it was the up and coming thing when they designed it? :thinking:
 
I have found a solution that is not firewire....I am a genius.........













Get a stick on address label ......print your name on it......and stick it to the camera.........sorted :thumbs:
