1st Apple now Microsoft drops flash

Oh dear what are all the people going to say now, they slagged apple off for dropping flash and now Microsoft is to do the same thing in Windows 8

Thank fudge! I could never understand the people who knocked Apple for dropping flash. Flash is an absolute pain in the arse to the point where I actively avoid using websites that use it. Especially in the case of photography websites. The one exception is Youtube and that's because there just isn't a worthy alternative! This isn't because of any Apple allegiance by the way, it's becomes flash is slow, cumbersome and just damn annoying to use!

BTW, you can switch to the desktop interface and still use flash on Win 8. It's only the Metro interface that has it turned off....

The second option is something I've looked at before and doesn't work with any videos that have annotations attached or ads which unfortunately rules out so many that it's not worthwhile. Very interested about the safari plugin though as it's my browser of choice; whats the plugin called?

Most people I have spoken to seem happy with the death of flash. Apple haters have used it as a rod to beat on the iPad, but really it is a horrible thing that needs to be gotten rid of, so however that happens can only be a good thing.

good news, flash is an old relic that makes computers run slow and hot and noisy

Flash provides features and performance that HTML5 still cannot match. Write an equivalent featured application in Javascript and Flash/Flex and Flash will still outperform HTML/JS on most browsers.

It's served it's time though, the glacial pace of the standards organisations seems to almost be at a point where there is an open, standard alternative.
