Do a forum search for redsnapper, it should pop up once or twice :D

I'm thinking of getting my first tripod too. It's quite incredible the amount of good feedback that Redsnapper gets on this forum so it's only a matter of time before I get my act together and buy one.

However, I do occassionally wonder if it's some big TP conspiracy. :suspect: There'll be togs giving each other knowing nods as they line up their Redsnappers, like some secret society... :whistling:

Like the others, can't go wrong with Redsnapper. Well priced and even more importantly well made.

I purchased a Vanguard off of a guy on another forum and I must say for what I paid it's a decent bit of kit. Very sturdy.

Some things you may want to consider when deciding on your tripod.

1. What will you use it for and how often do you think you'll use it ? (and do you actually need one as the D90 is superb in low light ?)

2. How easy must it be to carry i.e. how compact do you want/need it to be when folded away ?

3. How heavy or light do you want it to be i.e. again is ease of carrying important ?. The heavier it is the more stable it is, the lighter it is the easier it is to carry.

4. Do you want it to have its own carry case and for it to be a case which can strap on to a camera bag ?

5. What type of head do you want ? Will you want, for example, built in spirit levels.

6. What maximum height do you want ? if you are 6 foot 5, this may be an issue.

I'm sure there are more questions to answer, but these give you an idea of the things to think about when chosing a tripod so that you buy the right one first time out.

It's also worth keeping an eye on the 'for sale' forum as good tripods often appear there.
