Today at college, we are being video recorded at college and must explain why we like two photos we took at college? we will be standing up giving a presentation and must last 5 mins, 2.5 for each image....

I have no idea how to describe these images, appart from where they were taken ? and how, and i can't make that last 2.5 mins

So any help would greatfull

You need to explain your thought process. How did you approach No1 with the low light? Did you use a tripod? How did you select your aperture. How did you frame it and why? The boat as a compositional element in the foreground and the lights and their reflection leading the viewer to the centre of the frame.

That should easily take 2.5 mins. :)

The second, how did you select that viewpoint, what was off to the right that was distracting? Did you use a tripod and how did you determine the right shutter speed to get the right amount of blur in the water? Why did you put the house at the top of the frame and why did you not crop into the roof?
Why did you choose to shoot with the wall just on the left of the frame? It's a tight shot and took consideration to tell that story.

Should do it :)

Hope that helps.

Not there is anything wrong with them.

But maybe how you could improve them or taken from a different angle.
Handheld or tripod mounted.
How you composed them.
What you were trying to acheive ??

alib got there first...

That would be a great idea, however its harder to give CC on your own work, any help :)

I would also explain how different apertures would have changed the photos so in the first one had you taken this at f2.8 the boat and building would not both be in focus. You could explain that had the point of the photo been just the building then you would have increased the aperture to focus on that rather than everything. In the second one you can explain that the shutter speed was more important because you wanted to blur the water. You could explain the difference in water with different shutter speeds too.

Nice images

Were these shot as jpg or raw ???

I would crop the first one like this....

And the second like this....

The sky is a bit blown, so you could pp a new one in...

You could also explain what prompted you to take the photograph in the first place, whether it came out as you expected and, if you were to shoot it again, if there is anything you would change or try to improve.

strict criticism...go for all the angles...how they could have been better...especially the sky in no 2

Your original post says that you need to explain why you like the shots - not how you took them - 2 completely different things IMO.

True, but surely it's all in the wording ...

" I like the way my choice of aperture X focused the interest on y and by framing the composition with z placed on the ...etc, etc. which ...gives the image ...
