2 New lenses from canon

At a RRP of $299 (depending on exchange rates ) the 10-18 is going to be a no-brainer for UWA crop fans, just a bit peeved about the 16-35 as I bought a 17-40 two weeks ago :banghead:

Seems strange. The EF-s 10-22 is about £300 second hand and a great lens and the 16-35 f2.8 also. These just seem slightly less lenses at a cheaper price?
Be interesting to see build quality and results

Very welcome additions :)

MTF sharpness graphs for the 16-35/4 L look seriously good. Landscapers will love the edge/corner sharpness and IS will take hand-holding well into tripod territory. Price is pitched about right - more than the 17-40/4 L which is still a great buy, less than 16-35/2.8 L.

The EF-S 10-18 economy super-wide for APS-C also looks pretty good - all of Canon's newer STM designs have been impressive. And the price will take sales from Tamron and Sigma.

Over a thousand pounds for an f4 though? Why is Canon dropping 2.8 in favor of IS is beyond me. Landscape and video people will welcome the IS and won't care about f4 but for low light people f4 is a deal breaker.

I don't think it's a replacement for the f/2.8, more of an alternative?

If I still used a crop I'd get the 10-18 immediately and not even bother waiting a couple of months for the reductions to start.

On camerapricebuster you can get the 16-35 2.8L II for 4 quid less than the F4!

yip i can see a lot of sigmas getting sold very soon, dam good price for a canon uwa

Wonder if the 16-35 a replacement for the 17-40 F4 lens / will be the replacement for it ?

I don't believe it is a replacement, I think we can take an example from the 70_200 range to see canons thinking

70-200 f4
70-200 f4 IS
70-200 f2.8
70-200 f2.8 IS

17-40 f4
16-35 f4 IS
16-35 f2.8
16-35 f2.8 IS ( to be announce )

Will be interesting to see what the uk prices are. It would be great to buy a new ultra wide angle for £300, certainly think I will be saving up for one. I was hoping they would update the 17-55 with something like a 15-60 2.8 for crop sensors.

Surely that will mean that there would also be a 16-35 f4 as a replacement in the future?

I think the 10-18 will be great. I want a wide angle for my 70D, not fussed on paying loads for it but will be great for a lightweight travel kit to accompany my Sigma 35. I think combining those two with an 85mm prime and I have just about sorted my set.
