Flashguns... can I get a flashgun to flash without being attached to a camera, and do all or some allow this?
say, for setting a camera with a timed exposure outside a building and then going inside the building and flashing with the gun?

2/ I have a old 500mm lens with the usual settings on it but it also has a setting that consists of a line with arrow at each side with 0 at one side and C at the other what is this?

1) yes, get an off camera cord or remote trigger, depending on distance.
2) post a picture please.

Thomas - have a word with Flashinthepan regarding flashguns think he is from your neck of the woods

I just spoke to someone who said they just use an old digi camera flash with different coloured coverings to get coloured flash in timed exposures. just like some setting 5 mins and walking about with a torch except it using coloured flash..lol
and question 2 is open and close.. as homer simpson would say "Doh".

2) is it the auto stop down control?

Hi, I meant do flash guns flash without being attached to a camera, and found they have a test button, so they do.
and the O-C opens and closes the iris. I tried it to see what it does.
