The squirrel shots is good, but the quality of the real rat is not good. Was it a heavy crop?
 
yes it was a serious crop!
he came and went - well like a rat up a pipe!
 
#1 is great, #2 is a pet rat looking at the colour, was it in the wild, maybe an escapee?

it was definitely "in the wild"
I saw it in our local country park
I would guess about 20cm (9" in old money) plus tail
it was very shy, hence the lousy picture (gets excuses in early)

I did see a family of regular grey rats, smaller and not so shy

Thanks ma'am,
they were quite brazen about it
early afternoon, almost as if they were out for a stroll
3 of us stood and watched them for several minutes at a range of about 10 feet!
 
one even took a fancy to the food on the ad-hoc bird table...

i do believe the first photo is actually an illegal murdurous immigrant tree rat, if taken in the uk.
